I've read countless stories where Shiva is told to great than Vishnu & countless Vishnu stories which makes him the only Lord. But after reading all this spiritual books for decades & still couldn't decide who came first - like the chicken & egg... finally I got my answer in Bhagavad Gita. Anyway, regardless of who came 1st I think we need to focus on what is the message these stories trying to tell us.
