New Delhi: It's been a decade since Shah Rukh Khan's 'Swades' hit the screens and his character Mohan Bhargava, a project manager at Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Core Observatory with NASA hit the right chord with the audiences.

In 'Swades', Shah Rukh worked with a department called GPM which is an international network of satellites that provide global observations of rain and snow in order to better understand the global water cycle.

Ten years down the line, the NASA researchers who work on GPM in real life have launched the satellite that would provide detailed measurement of rain and snow. The project on which Shah Rukh Khan's character was working in 'Swades' has found the light of the day in real life after 10 years. The climate change satellite was launched on February 28 from the Tanegashima Space Center in South Western Japan.

The project on which Shah Rukh Khan's character was working in 'Swades' has found the light of the day in real life after 10 years.

According to the NASA website, "GPM will help us better understand our ever-changing climate, improve forecasts of extreme weather events like floods, and assist decision makers around the world to better manage water resources."

If we rack our brains, Shah Rukh Khan, who played Mohan Bhargava, almost said the same words during a GMP press conference scene in 'Swades'. When a reporter asks him, "Is this budget justified?" Bhargava replies, "Globally, there is a danger of water recession in the near future. It will not be unreal to imagine that in the 21st century, cities like Beijing, Amman, New Delhi, Santiago, Jakarta, Mexico City, Lima, and many others, will drink up, us up their surrounding waters and perish. Water is going to be rare. Is it not a reason enough to justify any budget?"

Kudos to director Ashutosh Gowariker for doing the prefect research back in 2004 and making his film's character a part of the research centre in NASA which exists in real life.
