Chapter 9
January 15, 2014. 7:00 pm.
Kabir is driving the car while Rachna keeps trying to ask him where they are going.
"Kabir, what's the surprise? Tell me! Where are we going?"
"Rachna, I told you it's a surprise. If I tell you where we are going, then it's not a surprise."
"Ok fine, but at least tell me how much longer it will take."
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1...and we are here!!"
Rachna looks out of the window to see where they are.
"Kabir! This is your surprise? You brought to the office!!"
Kabir smiles. "Yeah. Just come inside with me and you will understand."
Rachna and Kabir walk into the KT Creations office. Kabir brings Rachna into his cabin and tells her to sit while he goes to get something. Kabir comes back a few minutes later with his sketchbook. He gives it to Rachna.
"This is your surprise Rachna. Go on, take a look at it and tell me what you think."
Rachna hesistantly opens the sketchbook. She sees a bunch of new designs.
"Kabir these sketches are nice and all but why are you showing me all these?"
Kabir chuckles. "You're just crazy. You didn't even understand this! You are the first person I'm showing these sketches to...because these designs are going to be launched as the new collection. And the most important thing...I'm going to name the collection after you."
Rachna is very surprised to hear this from Kabir. "What?! Are you serious?"
"Yes! This is the surprise...I'm launching this collection at next week's show! And one more thing...the inspiration for this collection will model these designs too."
"Oh my god! Means me? I'm going to model at next week's show!?!? Really!?! I can't believe this! Thank you so much Kabir! I never expected this from you!"
Rachna jumps up from her chair and hugs Kabir. Suddenly Rachna's phone rings. It's Gunjan.
"Hello, yeah Gunjan. What's up?"
"What's up? Rachna, look at the time! Where are you? I'm at the ghats and I can't find you anywhere! We have to go home soon otherwise we will get into so much trouble!"
"Oh I'm really sorry Gunjan, I forgot to call you when we left the ghat. Actually Kabir and I are in the office."
"What? Office? Why are you there? Anyways, whatever, I'm coming there and then we will go home together, ok?"
"Yeah sure. I'll see you soon. Bye."
Rachna hangs up the phone and catches Kabir staring at her.
"Kabir. What wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Nothing. Just like that."
"Just like that? There's definitely something...tell me!"
"Nothing Rachna!"
"Ok fine, don't tell me! I have to go anyways!"
Kabir becomes sad. "What? You have to go? So soon? Ok I will drop you then."
"No Kabir, Gunjan is coming soon and we will go together. And besides, if anyone from my family sees you dropping me then I will get in a lot of trouble."
"Oh ok. I'll see you tomorrow morning then. Remember we have that meeting with Siddharth Kapoor."
"Ya, I'll see you tomorrow! Bye!"
Rachna goes towards the door. Then she turns around and runs back to Kabir to give him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"I really loved the surprise Kabir! Thank you so much!"
Kabir is surprised at Rachna's action. He blushes. "Ummm, yy...your www...welcome. I'm glad you liked it. Bye."

January 15, 2014. 10:00 pm. Gunjan's Room.
Everyone in the Garg family has had dinner. Rachna and Gunjan are in sitting together.
"Rachna...now quickly tell me everything! What did Kabir tell you? And what's going on between you two?"
Rachna shyly smiles. "Nothing Gunjan. Nothing like what you think. He's my best friend...from childhood."
"Oh really?! Don't be so shy, now tell me Rachna!"
Rachna tells Gunjan everything about Kabir...how they were best friends in their childhood, how he moved away, how they met again after so many years, and the story that Kabir had told her at the ghats today.
"Wow Rachna! I can't believe that all this happened with Kabir..."
Mayank walks into the room and Gunjan suddenly stops talking.
"What are you two up to?"
"Nothing bhaiyya, I was just going. Good night Gunjan. Good night Mayank bhaiyya"

January 15, 2014. 10:00 pm. Kabir's Room.
Kabir is thinking about everything that happened in the past few days...how he came to Benaras, met Rachna, the accident, their meeting today, and this kiss.
Kabir smiles as he remembers how Rachna's soft lips had pecked his cheek. He remembers the sweet flowery smell of her perfume. How big brown eyes get wide when she is surprised. How her cute little nose scrunches up when she is annoyed. The small dimples on her cheeks when smiles...
What going on with me? I used to remember Rachna all the time but it feels different now. And why do I keep remembering that kiss? I know that it didn't mean anything...it was just a friendly gesture from Rachna because she liked my surprise. But why doesn't my heart believe that...

Two weeks later...
Two weeks have passed since Rachna and Kabir met at the ghats. Rachna has been working really hard at KT Creations and the fashion show proved to be a major success. There are lots of new contracts and clients coming in. Meanwhile Rachna really likes working together with Kabir. Their old childhood friendship is slowly rekindling itself.

January 31, 2014. 8 am. Garg House.
Everyone is sitting at the dining table eating breakfast. Suddenly someone knocks at the door. Shail goes to open the door and is surprised to find Kabir there.
"Nanhe beta, you're here? Come inside dear."
"Thank you aunty. Actually I had to talk to Rachna about something important."
"Oh ok, I'll call her for you."
Rachna comes into the living room where Kabir is waiting for her.
"Kabir, you're here so early in the morning?"
"Ya Rachna. I just came to say that you can have the day off today. I have some important work outside of Benaras so I have cancelled all the meetings with our client."
"Oh ok. That's it? You could have just called me about that? Why did you take the trouble to come here?"
"What trouble? I'm your neighbor only, right? And besides, if I didn't come to your house, how would I have seen you today? And you know that my day doesn't go well if I don't see you everyday..."
Suddenly Dayal comes into the living room.
"If you have finished then you can leave now Mr. Tripathi."
Kabir gets up quickly. "Yes uncle, I'll just get going now. Bye Rachna."
"Bye Kabir."

Rachna is also walking out of the living room when Dayal stops her.
"Rachna beta, come here. I need to talk to you about something."
"Yeah papa. What's wrong? Is everything ok?"
"Beta I don't like the boy. Why don't you look for another job?"
"But papa, that's Kabir? You've known him since he was a kid? What's the problem?"
"Rachna it's only because of him that you had such a bad accident. What is something happened to you?"
"But nothing happened though papa? I'm perfectly fine. And honestly you also know that Kabir is a really nice boy. You know his family too. And the most important thing, he's my best friend papa."
"Hmmm, maybe you are right. I guess I just got a bit emotional when I saw you at the hospital and I have just blamed everything on Kabir since then."
"Thank you for understand papa."
Rachna hugs Dayal.
"Ok ok, now you go and finish your breakfast beta."
Rachna leaves and Shail brings some tea for Dayal.
"I'm glad that you have forgiven Kabir. You made Rachna really happy today."
Dayal smiles. "Our daughter is right Shail. It wasn't really Kabir's fault. Anyways, I was thinking that you should call mausi ji and Kabir over for dinner one day. They have come back to Benaras after such a long time."
"That's a really good idea ji. I'll invite them for tomorrow night then. And we can invite Raj also. It has been such a long time since he came to visit us."
"Yeah, that's fine. Ok I will go now. Bye Shail."

Rachna is sitting in her room and working on her laptop when Shail comes in.
"Mom? Come in...did you have any work for me?"
"Yeah. Hurry up and call Raj. Invite him for dinner."
"What? But why mummy? I mean suddenly?"
"No nothing special. We are inviting mausi ji and Nanhe for dinner tomorrow so I thought that we can call Raj also."
"Really?! Kabir's coming for dinner!"
"Yeah, but why are you getting so excited? You see him everyday right?"
Rachna blushes. "Yeah, I just got...anyways you go and I will call Raj now."
