Introduction Note cum Disclaimer
Hello, and thank you for reading the story. I just wanted to make a quick note about this FF. At this point, I am not very sure how it will turn out or if I would be able to complete it because I only know a few elements and snapshots - but I don't know if and how they will go together. Nevertheless I feel compelled to write.
One thing I do know is that this story is not of perfect people, and not meant to be for perfect people. The characters here would be grey - they would make mistakes, they would over-react, under-react and they would deal with situations like most of us deal with life - imperfectly at times. This is not about saintly pretty Gods and Goddesses, and this is not about a life with MAJOR dramatic twists everyday like a soap opera. This is about...life. And so, I totally understand that some of you may not like it, or find it disappointing/frustrating at times. I would request your patience to know where I am coming from, but it's ok if you hate it and don't wanna read it. If most of you don't want to read, I would just stop writing here, that's totally cool.
Please do share your views/feedback.
Thanks,
TK
Chapter 1
Madhu's heart was beating a million times a minute. What had she just done!
For a second, it felt like this wasn't happening to her, like this was a movie she was watching where one silly girl had just told someone without thinking that she was madly, deeply in love with him. But it wasn't fiction, and it wasn't happening to anyone else! She had just told RK that she was head over heels in love with him.
RK? Rishabh Kundra? She hadn't known him for even a month!
And most of all, she was in love? Really? Madhu, the girl who hated the idea of love and believed all there was in the world was pain. The girl who had lived all her life behind a self-constructed wall beneath her external facade of a confident, devil-may-care attitude, had she really put herself out there to a guy like that? The girl who didn't think she ever deserved to love or be loved by anyone, how was it that her heart today believed beyond reason that RK was her life.
RK...what did he think? Oh my God! He probably thought of her as a crazy needy woman. Shit...now they couldn't even be friends any longer. They had started to build such a good friendship. Why couldn't she control herself? What was it about RK that melted all her walls of defence and made her admit to him what she hadn't dared to admit to herself yet? Oh God! What did RK think? Should she apologise to him?
She hadn't given RK a chance to respond - the moment she said those words she had run! Ten minutes later her phone had started ringing, but she didn't dare to pick it up. She didn't wanna know - she was too scared.
A message. RK.
"Pick up the phone. We need to talk, honey ;)"
Madhu's hands shivered. Honey. He had joked about it, calling her honey as it was the meaning of her name, not even a week back. They were mildly flirting with each other than, sitting at the book cafe they both loved, the place where they'd first met. At that time, they hadn't thought of it as flirting. Just good natured friendly ribbing. At least that's what Madhu believed. How precious those moments were. It had only happened only a week ago, but somehow, to Madhu, it felt like that was her whole life. That somehow the life she had before she met RK was something alien, and something that did not matter as much!
She didn't reply. The phone rang again. She didn't pick. The rationality - or the lack thereof - of her actions was finally hitting her. She had acted out of character and gone with the flow, letting her heart overrule every logical instinct in her body. But now she was scared. Her mind wanted to think of excuses. Would he believe if I told him it was just a prank, or a dare by friends? Maybe then he wouldn't be angry, and she would be able to keep his friendship. His friendship really mattered to her.
Why did it matter so much, Madhu suddenly asked herself?
She had other friends - very few, agreed - but she had friends. And hadn't she lost people in the past and survived those losses? SO. MANY. TIMES. And for so many reasons. In fact, she had lost at least 3 good friends because at some point they claimed that they had feelings for Madhu, and spooked by those admissions, Madhu had run. She had never felt that way for any of them - and love was a stupid, painful, illogical, not-for-her thing anyway - and each time she had refused, pushed them away, and eventually lost them. So that was what was going to happen to Madhu today - RK would probably act polite because he was such a nice and caring guy, but they would be uncomfortable and this friendship would be over sooner or later. Could she survive losing RK like she had lost those other people.
No! She needed to find some excuse. She wasn't prepared to lose RK just because she had been so stupid.
The phone was still ringing. Madhu reached out for it but it got disconnected before she could pick it up. She decided to call RK and apologise before he had the chance to say anything. She had to fix this as soon as possible. But before she could dial, the phone beeped with another text.
"Open the door!"
