Hey peeps..next chapter is here and it brings in the Winter Season. And this one is a little shorter than usual but I felt it was a good point to stop.
This is a very Asya centric story, side characters come once in a while, not every chapater so I am hoping my Asya don't bore you all.đł
Anywho..i like dedicating my chapters to a reader so from now on, I will making dedications a habit, they make me connect with my readers. So this one is for my Soni, because it's so good to have you back baby đ¤. And also to Priya (PriyaKabhi), I hope your exams go well hun. Don't let IF distract you. Focus, do well đ

Chapter 4
December made it's gloomy entry and Asad's mood matched it. It had been two weeks since Zoya ran out of the library and Asad was yet to see her. He went to the Square every morning, not just every Monday but everyday, even odd times of the day whenever he had time for a possible glimpse.
Asad entered the square at one of those odd times' after a late evening class at university. Instead of heading home like he had planned, his feet with a mind of their own had ventured towards the square. The bitter cold night of December had chased away the usual crowds. It was eerily quiet, so quite the he could hear the rustle of the wind playing with the bare tree branches.
"I...I have to..go. My Appi needs me."
Distressed, she had ran out of the library and Asad worried for her. Her sister might have been in some sort of trouble but what could have caused a two week disappearance ? Asad had cursed himself countless times for not getting her phone number, seeing that they had known each other three months. A phone number would have been useful, buddy.
A light dusting of snowflakes blanketed the ground and more descended from the sky. Snowfall was one of the beauties of New York he came to love. He loved how the soft little flurries came down gently from above and rested on the ground sparking like specks of sliver glitter. His sour mood lifted. He smiled, tipping his face upward letting snowflakes melt as they met his skin.
Asad pulled his wool hat more firmly on his head as the frigid wind nipped at his ears. It was rather a cold night today in Manhattan. Asad stopped in his tracks as he saw a familiar body, huddled next to their now bare willow tree.
Zoya, Zoya is back. His heart took off a fast gallop at the sight of her and had his feet moving fast towards her.
Was the woman crazy ? She was sitting on the freezing ground wearing only a leather jacket. Zoya may have sensed his presence for she looked in his direction just as he was a few feet away.
"Asad". With that, she ran with a urgency into his open arms. Asad enveloped her closer to himself as he felt the freezing body, shivering against him. She wasn't wearing any bundling layers, no head gear, no gloves for her hands. Was she planning on getting hypothermia, sitting in this cold weather ?
Zoya let her tears run freely now, in Asad's arms, she broke down after two weeks. Burying her nose in the familiar crook of his neck, she let the dam burst. She cried with loud, heart wrenching sobs while Asad did what he did best, he just held her tightly.
Asad kissed her head as he lowered himself onto the ground, drawing Zoya onto his lap as he cradled her like a baby. She whimpered when he drew away, but only to take off his jacket to put around her shoulders. Then he drew their bodies flush each other, hoping his touch would both warm and soothe her. She was still shaking against him, sobbing uncontrollably.
"Shh, Zoya. Please stop crying now." Today, he couldn't helplessly let her cry because today, his own heart was breaking over her tears. "Come on, Zoe baby...Shh."
Asad's unconsciously spoken Zoe baby' had another bout of tears going. Her Appi use to call her that since she was young. Zoya clutched onto Asad tighter around the shoulders.
Please don't let go, Asad. Keep holding me, just keep holding me.
Zoya knew deep down why she had suddenly decided to come to the square, she came to see Asad. She wanted, no she needed, she needed her stranger, her friend.
"Please tell me what happened, Zoya. You are really worrying me now." Asad whispered against her ear. She drew back to look at him, pure concern furrowed his face. He cradled her face tenderly in his hands, wiping her dampened cheeks with a soft touch of his thumb pads
"Asad...Asad..I..she", she broke off, the lump in her throat constricting her words. Asad waited patiently, grasping her hands and rubbing them with his.
"It's okay, Zoya. Just breathe." She exhaled deeply.
"She is gone, Asad. My Appi is gone forever."
Dread filled him as an indescribable pain came into Zoya's eyes. Unable to look into her eyes any longer, he huddled her closer to himself, feeling her shivers. He pressed his lips against her temple. "Come on Zoya, let's get you warm first." He ran his hands along her arms, "You will get ill this way."
He attempted to lift her up, but she shook her head. "No wait, I haven't been able to say it out loud yet. Ya Allah Asad," she gasped as if reality finally sunk in. "My Appi is no more, she's dead."
Maybe she had been able to say it, but he hadn't been ready hear it.
Tears began to descend her cheeks but Asad could tell that she was trying to get a rein on them, on her emotions. Asad wouldn't hesitate to hold her again if she needed him to, but she didn't need that now.
"Chalo, Zoya." He hulled her up and interlacing their hands.
