West Indies captain Brian Lara has announced his retirement from international cricket. "I have told my board and my players about it,", he said at the fag end of the press conference following the hosts' first win in the Super Eights in Barbados.
Lara had earlier announced that Saturday's match against England would be his last one-day game. "This Saturday will be my last match in international cricket," he confirmed after his team's 99-run win over Bangladesh on Thursday.
In a remarkable career spanning 16 years, Lara has played 131 Tests and 298 ODIs. He has scored 11,953 Test runs at an average of 52.88. In ODIs he has scored 10,387 runs at an average of 40.57.
