Chapter 66

IN CHENNAI:

Early morning 4.30 a.m ... alarm keeps ringing and Raji wakes up. She
gets up and keeps looking at the timepiece. Exactly at 5 a.m. the alarm
in her mobile rings. She gets off her bed and searches and finds her
mobile between the books in the cupboard. She puts the mobile on
charge and gets busy with her daily schedule. Raji goes to the temple,
prays for Karthik and then reaches office.

AT THE CUBICLES:

Raji and Vishnu are working and Lakshmi comes there.
Lakshmi: Raji, Vishnu... lunch ku seekkiram poyittu vandhidanum. exact aah anga 10' o clock ku meeting. namakku inga 2.30 irukkum... lunch mudichittu 1.30 ku conference hall la assemble aaga solli Susan sonnaanga...
Raji: OK... Lakshmi... 12.30 ku polaamaa?
Lakshmi: mmm... ippo tea kudikkalaamaa?
Raji: illa Lakshmi... neenga poyittu vaanga...
Lakshmi: Vishnu... nee variyaa?
Vishnu: mmm.. varen...
Both of them go to canteen...

Raji is working seriously and her mobile rings...
Raji: helloo...
There's complete silence for a few seconds.
Raji: helloo...Karthik...Karthik...
Karthik: helloo... Raji...eppadi irukke?
Raji: naan nallaa irukken... nee?
Karthik: naanum nallaa irukken... enna pannittu irukke? Vishnu, Lakshmi eppadi irukkaanga..
Raji: avangalum nallaa irukkaanga... rendu perum canteen poyirukkaanga...

Karthik: Raji... I MISS YOU...
Raji: naanum...
Karthik: sari... vachidavaa?
Raji: mmm... bye...
Karthik: bye...
Karthik kisses her on phone and she replies ."naan office la irukken...bye...". He smiles, says bye and cuts the call.

IN BERLIN:

Karthik gets ready, checks his laptop and waits for Philip. Exact at 9
a.m. Philip comes and takes Karthik to his Office. The Client's office
was a multistoreyed building and Philip takes Karthik straight to the
Conference hall in the tenth floor.
Philip helps Karthik to arrange the screen, etc., for Demo and Presentation and also for the video conference .
Very punctual all the board of directors and CEO assemble in the
conference hall. The CEO introduces Karthik to others and Karthik
greets everyone humbly.

IN CHENNAI:

Viswanathan, Susan, Lakshmi, Vishnu and Raji come to the conference room and Vishnu connects the video conference with Karthik. Everyone is happy to see Karthik at the Client's place. Lakshmi and Raji are alert with the demo and presentation slides on their laptops in case if Karthik needs any help. Karthik introduces Viswanathan to the CEO and both exchange greetings.
After the so called formalities, the CEO asks Karthik to proceed.
Karthik looks at the monitor and all his friends show thumbs up to him.
Karthik takes a deep breath and starts the demo . He explains every
minute detail and clarifies all the doubts raised by the clients. Finishing the demo, he moves to the presentation and executes it pretty well. In addition to that, he explains all the important points in german.
The CEO and others have some more queries which Karthik answers
very patiently. After 4 long hours, the session ends and the CEO tells
that they'll continue in half an hour after lunch. Everyone disburses and Karthik sits in front of his laptop to talk to his team mates...

Viswanathan: well done ... Karthik... let's hope for the best...
Susan, Lakshmi, Vishnu and Raji congratulate him and he receives it
with a smile.
Viswanathan gets a call and he leaves from there. Susan, Lakshmi and Vishnu go to canteen to have coffee leaving Raji alone in the
conference room.
Karthik and Raji remain quiet looking at each other for sometime.Then,
Raji: Karthik... nee lunch saappidalaiyaa?
Karthik: illa Raji... pasi illai... adhuvum illaama oru vazhiyaa idhu
mudinjiduchi nnaa nimmathiyaa saappidalaam nu yosichen...
Raji: coffee aavadhu kudikkaradhu dhaane?
Karthik: Philip lunch mudichittu varumbodhu kondu varen nu solli
irukkaan.
Raji: OK...
Karthik: Raji... presentation eppadi irundhadhu... edhuvum
sothappalaye?
Raji: illa Karthik... romba nallaa pannine... confident aah , thelivaa ,
azhagaa panne...
Karthik: podhum build up... vidu...
Raji: Karthik... enakku oru vishayam romba pidichirundhadhu... sollavaa...
Karthik: enna?
Raji: nee german la pesinadhu avvalavu azhagaa irundhuchi... edho
extra language nu kathukitte, translate panradhu, mail anupparadhu
ellaam OK... aanaa innaikku anga irukkaravangaloda pesarappo nee
pesaradhu vithyaasamaa theriyave illa...
Karthik: nijamaa?
Raji: aamaa... Karthik...
Karthik: padichadhoda sari... pesi pazhaga ve illa... rendu naalaa
Philip kooda pesumbodhu dhaan... slang catch panna try pannen...
workout aayiduchi pola...
Raji: nee present pannumbodhu... projector pakkathula blue shirt
pottuttu ninnuttu irundhaare avar thaan Philip aah?
Karthik: mmm...aamaa...

Philip comes to Karthik and gives him a mug of coffee.
Karthik: Thank you... Philip come here... i want you to meet someone ..
Philip comes beside karthik and he shows Raji on the monitor...
Karthik: This is Raji... my fiancee...
Philip: Hi Rajii...
Raji: Hi Philip...Thanks for taking care of Karthik.
Philip: It's my pleasure... Karthik has become a good friend...

One by one start coming and ten minutes later, discussion starts
through video conference... Karthik does an excellent job of
communicating between the Clients and Viswanathan and team.
Two hours later, the CEO declares that they are happy with the Demo
and the project is allotted to them. Viswanathan and others are happy
back in Chennai Office and there in Berlin everyone Shakes hand with
Karthik.
