F rom a brawny newcomer, to one of the most promi- nent faces on Indian tel- evision, Hiten Tejwani has found a comfort zone. Better known as Karan Virani of Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, he's a favourite with women across the board. After a dance stint with wife Gauri Pradhan on Nach Baliye 2, he also had a brush with cinema in a blink 'n' miss role in Anwar. I ask: When did you first want to be an actor ? I'm a born actor. I have been one all my life. But it wasn't until col- lege that I was placed in front of the camera. At the time, I was merely 23 or 24 years old and had shot a couple of ads, my big break on TV came when I was 26. Isn't it too monoto- nous to play the same character for over three years? Nope. In fact, I enjoy it. I couldn't have asked for more. I think Karan's char- acter is well-written. It's evolving with every episode. I don't think it will ever become monot- onous for me. What's your equation with the newbies? Fantastic. We're one big family.. not just on but also off the sets. We share the make-up rooms. It makes for a healthy work atmosphere. Hasn't TV been lucky for you? Sure, it has. I met Gauri when we were shooting for a televi- sion commercial for a bath soap. Then we worked together in Kutumb and Kyunki.. the rest is history. Television has been lucky for me professionally as well. It was a platform for making my mark. I think I've used it well to my advantage. I believe you are also doing more films after Anwar. Not really. I don't know who's spreading these rumours. Apart from Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, I'll soon be seen doing a stint in Kasauti Zindagi Kay. I'm not doing films right now. What do you do in the little spare time you get? It depends on how much time I have. If I'm off for two- three days, I usually drive down to Pune with my wife. We love the place.
