@rinal, a Kalpa has 14 Manvantars Each Manvantar has 72 Maha-yugas. Each Maha-yuga has 4 yogas- Sat, treta, Dwapar & Kali. In every Kalpa's every Manvantar, this story gets repeated.
These skulls are actually unfulfilled wishes of Sati, as it was shown in that cave track in past. That's why with each skull, Lakulesh was seeing a scene connected with Mahadev & Sati.
Everyone has their own pov. Puranas & other scriptures have been a source to know this stories for many of us including the makers. So it's obvious to mention about Puranas, as viewers can connect to them faster. Atleast I connect to what is known to me faster. Even if fiction has elements of Scriptures, it's always appreciated. But the bottom line is, following a source is a must.
