Some have mentioned confusion in regards to the festival... here's some points:

Vaisakhi marks the beginning of the harvest season in Punjab.

It also has a religious aspect for Sikhs around the world. In 1699, the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji called a meeting in which thousands of Sikhs arrived. At this meeting, he introduced to the world the emergence of the Khalsa Panth, the Sikh faith.
