T he unit of Kaajjal Sab- bki Ankhon Mein Bassi (Sony)is shooting a new twist in the storyline at Film City. Lead actor Apoorva Agnihotri is now seen in a double role in the show. Raju Rangila He says, "Dev, my character in the show, has died on his wed- ding day under mysterious cir- cumstances. Now, I'm enact ing the role of Raju Rangila, a tourist guide. "He does a take-off on Dev Anand and Shah Rukh Khan. I'm not going to overdo it. The act won't be in-your- face." Saying that Raju will have a jeans and T-shirt look, he adds, "There are no elaborate get- ups. He is a character inspired by Hindi films. His personali- ty will be reflected more in his body language and the way he speaks." If there were any murmurs recently about the actor not being too happy with his role or the money offered to him, then Agnihotri's cheerful face doesn't show it. On the contrary he is all praise for the producer; "I'm very happy the way my char- acter has shaped up. When you're paid, you can't cheat by doing a half-hearted job. " Is he being paid more now? "No, no, nothing of the sort," he laughs. How does he sustain his interest in working in a daily TV show? "Simple. By think- ing of the day that I will receive my pay cheques," he remarks. True calling Recently, his wife, actress Shilpa Saklani spoke about his dream of turning director. What are his plans? "I do want to direct before my last breath. I want to do everything – right from being the last assistant director to maintaining conti- nuity in scenes. Ideally, I'd want to assist someone before taking the plunge." He continues, "I know that I will make a better director than an actor. I have it in me. Right from the start of my acting career, I have known that I want to be behind the camera. "A film is a director's vision. Only he or she can lay claim to the creation and that's a beau- tiful feeling. I'd rather be known as a creator," he says smiling. Karan Johar, Rakeysh and Mehra Nagesh Kukunoor are his favourite directors and sensible cinema is what the Pardes hero would like to make. Kids and more Incidentally his father, the late , Gyandev Agnihotri, had entered films to be an actor. But it was writing in which he found his true calling. "I saw my father a satisfied man when he wrote successfully," says Agnihotri. What about his wife's dream of becoming a mother? "God willing, it should be fulfilled soon." Doesn't he want to try any other genre? "Yes, Shilpa and I hosting a show together should be a good idea," he signs off. . - - "
