Subhanallah, kya saaf suthri Urdu zubaan hai! Mubarak ho, bachchi!

It does not matter, my dear. Isme dukhi hone ki koyi bat nahin hai. I believe firmly that for everything, there is a time and a place. So clearly the time and the place for us to get to know each other was now, and in this forum. And I am delighted to add you to the group of "my girls".

Yes, I too wish you had been in the Jodha Akbar group during 2013-2014. We used to have so much fun together, my girls and I , despite the huge age gap, which we never tried to bridge. You would have fitted in neatly and enjoyed yourself. Even now, years after I stopped writing, they still have birthday threads for me. Just take a look at

https://www.indiaforums.com/forum/chandra-nandini/4766183/happy-birthday-shyamala-aunty-akka

I love them dearly and I believe that it is reciprocal. I also used to scold them when they misbehaved, which is why they joke about my chappal and my belan!😆You see, I have just the one son, and these honorary nieces of mine stand in for the daughter or daughters that I would have wanted to have.

Later, I wrote for the Yudh and Mahakumbh forums - they were both finite shows - and I had different groups of friends there too, but nothing like the one in the Jodha Akbar forum with my girls. We all hope that soon there will be some show where we can regroup and I can post my analyses, an d then of course you must turn up too!

As for my Jodha Akbar posts, you can have the whole list any time you like. I don't have such lists for the other shows I covered, but for Jodha Akbar, there was a lot of demand for it, and so I sat down and compiled it. With the links, you can go to the threads and look thru the discussions too. I presume you watched Jodha Akbar later, online, I presume, so you will understand the posts.

Now I hear that Aniruddh Pathak is going to make Mughal-e-Azam. I am sure they will use the same sets used for the film Jodhaa Akbar and for the serial, which are still in perfect condition in Karjat. That should be a change from this ultramarine blue of Paurav Rashtra, where even the dustbins seem to be blue!😆

Thank you for the compliment, Aunty! 😳

I do have Jodha Akbar to thank for that. I binge watched that serial online - it was like a language school for me (both for Urdu and Hindi). I have already started to look up your JA posts.

I am pleased that I'm now in your group. 😃

As for Mughal-e-Azam, if rumors are anything to go by Shaheer Sheikh is supposed to be playing Saleem. You are going to love him, I'm sure. He's a phenomenal actor!

Yes, a change of location would be great. After watching Razia Sultan, Mahabharat, and now Porus, I feel like I know every single tree in that "forest" in Umergaon. 😆

I know him from Mahabharat, he was Arjun there, right? He is good, but on my scale of liking, nowhere near Rajat and now Rohit. He seems, to me at least, to lack the X factor, the one that makes you a hearthrob, and at my age, one can judge these things dispassionately!😉 Nor was he, in the one show where I have seen him, anywhere near as subtle and nuanced a performer as these two.

And not just a change of location. Those Jodha Akbar sets are truly magnificent, not like these plaster of paris concoctions.

I actually discovered him through Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi - he was brilliant and has improved a lot since his Arjun days.

Rajat is something else altogether - I first saw him in Jodha Akbar and was impressed by him, despite the fact that he was still quite "young".

And now Rohit has been a revelation too.

Let's see how it goes with Shaheer! Apparently Nawab Shah will play Akbar - he is a fine actor!

Yeah, I loved the Jodha Akbar sets too. They looked very authentic and seemed to be fit for all kinds of scenes. Were they the same one used in the movie too?

Yes. They were really created for the film, but they were so impressive that the art director of Jodhaa Akbar, the famous Nitin Desai, decided to preserve them as a tourist attraction.

Which was a huge windfall for Ekta Kapoor, who just had to rent those sets. And now I'm sure Aniruddh Pathak will do the same.

Wow! I'm even more excited about it.
Akbar was an inspirational leader too, and I would like to see more of his strategy and far sightedness on display. I'm hoping this new show will steer clear of kitchen politics. 😆

Don't start out asking for the moon! No TV serial, unless it is crime thriller series, can steer clear of kitchen politics. It is the same in the western serials as well, only there it is bedroom or boardroom politics. Kya faraq padta hai?

See, this Mughal-e-Azam, if it follows the film, will have to be a single track script - Boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy's father cuts up rough. Let us forget for the moment that Anarkali never existed, or if she did, she was earlier Akbar's concubine , and that Salim already had two wives at the very least!😉

The film focussed solely on the Salim-Anarkali story. In a 3 hour plus film, that will pass. Not in a 120 hour serial. What on earth can they show with this one story for 120 hours?

Of course the title is about Akbar the Great, who was a tremendous leader and visionary, and if they have the good sense for it, one can make a 700 episode serial just on him. With very thrilling sequences too. Do you know that he once rode for 5 days non stop from Agra to Jodhpur to stop the forcible sati of the Maharani of Jodhpur? He set off without even an escort, which caught up with him only over 2 days later, and managed, through the sheer force of his personality, to stop the sati in the face of a hostile crowd.

Of course Ekta never showed this in her very successful Jodha Akbar, though she had all the time in the world for daayans, vishkanyas and a ridiculous sequence showing Akbar, Akbar the Great, held almost as a prisoner by a bunch of East India Company merchants! Plus she managed to attribute every single one of Akbar's visionary moves - the removal of the pilgrim tax, the removal of jaziya, the ban on child marriage, you name it - to Jodha and her influence. Nothing was shown as Akbar's own idea. It was beyond ridiculous. 😡😡😡

I expect this show will be another Jodha Akbar, with an ageing Ruqaiya, an ancient Hamida Banu, and of course Jodha and Salima, all churned up into a khichdi. Plus, you will probably get Anita Hassanandani for Anarkali.😆

So, don't get too worked up about this show. I plan to watch it for a while, unless it comes in a channel which is not in my Tatasky pack. I paid extra for Ashoka, and soon regretted it!😆

That's interesting, I didn't know about that incident. Why was he so keen to save that Maharaani? Had he abolished the practice of Sati in general or was this a one-off?

One thing I really disliked about the JA show was the depiction of Ruqaiyya. Apparently, the real Akbar really loved her despite having no children together and in his later days said he regretted taking other wives. Ruqaiyya in the show had so much potential as a character, but she ended up being portrayed as an insecure, scheming wife, who put her position above her husband's love or happiness.

Akbar was a very charismatic leader, and I would love to see more of his interactions with his courtiers, his rocky relationship with Salim (that was not only because Anarkali), his changing approach to religion and social norms over time, etc.

The only way to keep it crisp is to have a finite series with a fixed plot. But as you said, I am asking for the moon (and the stars)!
