Porus, Ashoka and Chandragupta Maurya have similar stories in their respective show... All of them lived as commoners in their childhood even though they belong to the Royal family... They were unware about their real identity... Their Mothers gave them birth in critical conditions !!

As per my info Chandragupta Maurya was not a prince or belongs to royal family but he was made a king by chanakya to take his revenge on nanda's

Ashok has many versions, as per my version ashok is the crueliest person brought up in royality but he changes after war and takes Buddhism. He never suffered like common man. Infact his elder brother is the most calm and good person whom ashok sends him to jail and then kills to become king. What showed on TV was not right...

As for puru, we have no version on his childhood or family so I think creative team took liberties.

Porus was born a royal prince and always lived prince never commoner, this is fiction story
Ashoka born and lived as prince as his dad was emperor bindusar never as commoner, yes for few time he was living in exile(because bindusar was angry with him and for right reasons he was too voilent in some wars causing terible misery and his step brothers sushim and others(like nobels) used that opportunity and complained about it to Bindusar saying Ashoka was too voilent to be next king etc). So he never lived a commoner life, he was just exiled as governor only(which emperors sons usually became) to far off place from capital with all luxury intact

Only Chandra gupta was a commoner and orphan adopted by a tribal villager who then went on to be emperor
