Phir Bhi Na Maane...Badtameez Dil review: Mere Nishaan and the pretty Asmita Sood are the only saving graces in this drab love story gone wrong

Phir Bhi Na Maane...Badtameez Dil review: Mere Nishaan and the pretty Asmita Sood are the only saving graces in this drab love story gone wrong

Contrived plot, hammy performances and been-there-done-that situations strike in the pilot episode of Star Plus' new offering!

Another show comes up that has its title inspired from a popular Hindi track. Phir Bhi Na Maane...Badtameez Dil is about what happens when two ex-lovers work together in an explosive work environment after sharing a torrid past. Did it make a mark in its pilot episode? Let's find out...

Story:

The show starts off with Abeer Malhotra (Pearl V Puri) straining his throat on a Atif Aslam song for a show on the channel he is working on. Apparently, his show is the only thing that works for his channel (it's a Hindi serial, strange things happen!). Though he is quite popular and talented, Abeer is addicted to heavy drinking and even takes a sip and more at his workplace, which his boss coolly allows! But his normal' life takes a turn when Meher Purohit (Asmita Sood) joins the channel as the new CEO. Both of them shared a romantic past a few years ago, that didn't end up good for either of them or their family members. With her joining there, there are moments dedicated to their apparent friction. We are then shown a flashback of their college days, where Meher enters the college for the first time during Holi celebrations and is immediately dunked into a tank full of water by Abeer (I thought Holi comes by college year end...why does anyone join there at that time?). The channel owner throws a party for the new CEO, from where she is accosted and taken away by her ex-flame, Abeer. At his place, they share a few fiery words about their past, including the facts that they were married and divorced...

The Good:

The only thing that I found appeasing was Darshan Raval's Mere Nishaan song that served as the intro track for the serial. The song has been playing a lot on the television that sometimes I keep humming the same. And the heroine is really pretty...

The Bad:

The show is said to inspired from the Hollywood classic The Breakfast Club, though none of this evident in the pilot episode. Yup, Meher is shown as a geek in her college days (equipped with that trademark spectacles, that disappears when she is the CEO), while Abeer is the brat, obviously (they have to be opposite!). The channel office where both are shown working looks more like an over-decorated coffee shop. There are no surprises or shocks in store for the viewers, at least in the pilot episode!

Performances:

Asmita Sood is really pretty and eye-pleasing, though she looks more of an intern than a channel CEO. Pearl Puri is just about okay, who is either shown smoldering or making convoluted expression while singing. The rest of the cast passes muster. Looking forward to the entry of Ayub Khan in the coming episodes...

Verdict:

PBNMBD has definitely started on a not-so-great note with its done-to-death situations that we have seen in a few movies. Hope it manages to bring something new to the show in the coming episodes! Otherwise, it will be only riding on the virtue of the title song!

hello everyone
i do believe that to some extent it could be true. and i am expecting some maturities in the characters as well as in the story line. hopefully they will be able to catch viewers of all age as they are targeting. but i just wanted to ask to the person whoever wrote this article that what is actually perfect , sickening sas bahu drama or rotten love stories that dont really make any sense at all.

I think episode one is too early to be talking about the storyline as I would like to wait a bit before jumping to any sorta conclusions. But yes as mentioned in the article, this show could go anywhere, either a hit or a miss, If it is a miss then I guess I'd have to cross one more Indian show from my watchlist.
And yeah, now when I think of it this show does have similarities to BC, the movie also revoles around 5 teens who meet at a detention center but the movie doesn't have the leads marryin n getting seperated and re meeting, that kinda stuff.

We don't need shocks or surprises in the pilot episode. Feeling a connection with the story is more important. I dont know about others but the opening epi was good for me. But again as mentioned in the article the office does look like a coffee house 😆

As long as the show doesn't include typical Saas Bahu Drama I'm up for anythin 😊

Who is this dumb writer who reviewed it?!?
I agree with destiny_rose

Friction between couple is more important!

I am loving the actor no matter who the actress is!
