He sat, on the sofa seat, staring at the portrait in front of him. Gulping another glass of alcohol, he leaned back in the sofa seat, inhaling sharply. His eyes red and puffy, he looked as if he had cried a lot. The portrait in front of him was the only source of light in the darkness surrounding him. Wiping the stray tear off his cheek, his mind replayed all the thoughts that are stabbing his heart like poisoned knives.
"Somebody help me! This door isn't opening!"
"Main Ahaana ko bacha nahi paya, I couldn't save her Mom! She died Mom, I lost my love, I lost her Mom!"
"Naren Sir, mera naam Ankita hai, Ahaana nahi. Aap kyon mujhe baar baar Ahaana keh kar bulate hain?"
"Ahaana, you are alive, tum thik ho? Woh accident, main..tumm..I thought I lost you Ahaana!"
"Hamaari shaadi, jin halation mein hui, maine kabhi nahi socha thha ki main aapse yeh kahungi..I Love You Naren sir, I love you a lot!"
"I love you Ahaana, chahe kuch bhi ho jaye, main hamesha tumhaare saath rahunga, hamesha tumhaara saath doonga!"
"Tum..tum meri Ahaana nahi ho, meri Ahaana toh woh hai, tum nahi! You are a cheat, a fraud! I hate you!"
"Naren Sir please, main aapse bohot pyaar karti hoon, Naren Sir! Meri baat toh suniye..please!"
"Kamaal hai na Naren, jis ladki se tu pyaar karta hai, uss teri zara bhi fikar nahi hai. Arre woh zinda thhi, tab bhi tujhe akela chod gayi, she made you feel guilty and think that she was dead. Aurr ek woh ladki hai, jo tujhse pagalon ki tarah pyaar karti hai, tere liye marne tak ko tayaar hai, aurr tujhe uski zara si bhi fikar nahi!"
"Ankita kabhi galat thhi hi nahi. I made a mistake Naren, I made her wed you. Yehi meri life ki sabse badi galati hai!"
"Tum chahe hi kehte raho, kit um Ahaana se pyaar karte ho but believe me Naren, jo pyaar maine tumhaari aankhon mein dekha hai na, woh Ahaana yah Pari ke liye nahi, sirf aurr sirf Ankita ke liye. Tum chahe khud se jhoot bolte raho, but sachai ko jhutla nahi sakte! You love Ankita, and only Ankita!"
"Bohot galat kiya tumne Naren. Uss ladki ko khud se door kar liya, jiski duniya tum ho. Ankita ke liye, tum sirf uska pyaar hi nahi, uska junoon, uska sansaar ho. Main dekha hai usse, tumhaare liye usne saari hadein paar kar di. Mark my words Naren, you'll repent!"
"Aap mujhse jitni chaahe utni nafrat kijiye, par aapke liye mera pyaar kabhi kam nahi hoga!"
"Waqt aurr halat badal chuke hain sir, aurr main bhi. Aapke liye mera pyaar nahi badla, but ab uss pyaar ko nibhane ki himmat nahi hai mujhme!"
"Maine tumse kaha thha na, ki ek din aisa aayega, jab tumhe uski zaroorat hogi, aurr woh na toh tumhaare saath hogi, aurr na hi tumhaare paas."
"Aaarrrggghhh..." he cried throwing the glass, hard against the floor. The glass shattered into pieces that made him realize that even his life is shattered just like that glass. He was so much drunk, that he could hardly stand properly.
Moving close to the portrait, the portrait of the beautiful lady that made his life heaven and he made her life hell! The smile on her face, made his eyes shine with emotions, his lips curve into a smile, his hands moved on her portrait, as if caressing her cheeks. His fingers lingered up-on her lips, her smiling lips.
"Kitni ajeeb baat hai na Ankita!" he said, caressing the portrait, as if talking to her.
"Jab tum chahti thhi, ki main tumhe "I Love You" kahoon, tab main kehna nahi chahta thha, aurr aaj jab main tumse apne dil ki baat kehna chahta hoon, apne pyaar ka izhaar karna chahta hoon, tab tum sunna nahi chahti." He laughed a self-agonizing laugh.
"Meri zindagi, mera ishq, mera junoon, mera pyaar, sab tum ho Ankita. Jab tumhe meri zaroorat thhi, tab main tumhaare saath nahi thha! What a lover, I am!"
"Well done, Naren Karmarkar! You very successfully destroyed the love of your life! You very successfully destroyed the one and only girl, who loved you the most in the world, well done!" and he laughed, painfully, humourlessly and agonizingly.
Unknown to Naren, two pairs of eyes, watched him, as he cried, cried at the loss of his beloved wife, his love, his life..Ankita Naren Karmarkar.
