'Arranged' marriages

After all the heartaches that the Karanjikar family has gone through in Archana's alliance, I am surprised that Archana and Sulochana approve of Vinay as a suitable husband for Poorvi. In my experience, the bride's family makes thorough investigations on the prospective groom's family background and his personal characteristics. After all, marriages are still thought to be 'forever'. How come Archana agrees to Poorvi's engagement without any questions. And Poorvi...is she so dumb that she will agree to this choice without a single reservation? I don't get it. Do any of you?
