We all have been ardent fan of show "Parichay". Reason for success of the show has been impeccable character of Kunal Chopra the male lead and damn good couple "Kunal-Siddhi (SINAL)".
But we witnessed absolutely mutilation of both leads in past 5 months. We saw Siddhi striking a deal with vamp Richa that she will leave her husband for her in return of his release from jail. She also goes on to call her husband a murderer in open court and hurts him later by lying to him. Now Kunal in return leaves his pregnant wife in jail and believes vamp Richa that his wife tries to kill their new born baby. After leap we witnessed one hell of a roller coaster ride with more Misunderstandings, lies, pretense and accusations from both leads. There was really no explanation for any of it. It was forced upon to us and we endured through it all. Both lead characters had lost their original essence but we still remained hopeful due to their promise of reunion of husband-wife.
But what do we witness again? When Kunal goes to take Siddhi back home, he sees she is marrying someone else? Upon questioning she again lies to him? Why, of course due to some compulsion. She breaks his son's dreams and once again shatters her husband into million pieces.
Sorry is that what we have to accept? Wasn't it enough we endured through enough insult to marital relationship and mockery of our festivals, now they take it to next level?
Our values and cultures have been mutilated and our sentiments ignored. This is not just a daily soap; it is a medium that sends strong message. What message are these people sending? Female are supposed to be weak who on the name of "sacrifice" will do whatever, be it marry any random guy and antagonize her husband for it? What is next, sleeping with this guy? And men are only good for nothing testosterone pumping creatures not able to protect their family? Next from him would be taking revenge from his wife for hurting him?
The show was promised to be a male centric show. But what we have so far is a fallen hero who keeps going down more and more. All he had done is impregnate his wife. Other than that he has been a drunkard wastrel for over a decade, a prop who gets easily manipulated by vamp and everyone around him and will run to bar at drop of a hat. That is our hero? We expect him to fight for his wife, clear her name from false murder and unite his family. On the other hand we want female lead to be communicative to her husband, trust and respect him enough to confide in him. We wish to see a normal couple facing ups and downs of life together.
When we look at Kunal-Siddhi; they are not simply characters. We see ourselves, our husband-wife, brother-sisters and even father-mothers in them. This is not our idea of how leads of a show for "middle-class family" are supposed to be.
The show comes from Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms. Her employee Nivedita Basu is the one who makes all the decisions. So because it comes from BT, are we supposed to take it? We only have two choices that either stop watching or continue witnessing cheapness of culture and constant mutilation of our favorite characters, not to mention get hurt by false promises?
We cannot ask to get our original characters and couple back? We can't ask for Siddhi – simple, straight forward girl who she used to be, always standing by her husband supporting him at every point? We can't ask for Kunal – strong individual he was but always truthful, principled individual who knew difference between right and wrong unwilling to compromise at any point with his no nonsense attitude. Man who refused to submit to any wrong doings, fought for right, always protected his wife against all odds? We can't ask for beautiful couple SINAL – who defined pure love and always upheld sanctity of marriage and stood by each other no matter what?
Because we are "real middle-class" people, we must just take it???
