I was watching the old episodes where Kunal reminiscences how he and thakral fell apart. From what i understand;Thakral asked Kunal to fight a case that was against his principles; he refused to and even went ahead and fought the case against Thakral. The breaking point for Thakral; more than Kunal's refusal to fight the case was the fact Kunal went ahead and fought against him.
Now my question is: Did Kunal do the right thing? He was right in refusing to fight the case. But did he perhaps go a bit overboard in fighting against Thakral himself. He could have probably asked a lawyer friend to fight it instead. Think of it from Thakral's perspective: your own employee and protege goes ahead to fight the case against you...

Another point.. Why did Kunal not work for 5 long years... He saw how much pain and suffering his family was in??? At that time even Gaurav's frustration was understandable. They had lost everything and he was having to slog it out while Kunal sat at home... q is why did he sit at home.. surely after some cooling period he could have gotten another job... also he values his principles so much.. didnt he feel it was his responsibility to take care of his family and not become a liability...

I love Kunal but somehow I hate the fact that he has not done a great job of taking care of his family... Even with siddhi while he promised to try and keep her happy at the time of proposing to her; in the intital days of their marriage i never saw him make any effort at doing that. He was rude; often yelled at her; was proprietal about her without giving her any rights on his life.. and was too concerned for richa...

It was only around november that we saw kunal change and become a good friend and companion to siddhi.. my question is when it was he who had proposed and promised things to siddhi why didnt he keep to his promise initially??

Well... girls have an old habit of falling in love with the bad boys. Kunal really acted like a jerk and tried as much as possible so that Siddhi may n't like him . But Poor girl Siddhi , when all the girls who watch Parichay couldn't stop falling in love with Kunal , she never stood a chance ... Also Kunal did make her laugh with his uncanny sense of humour ...

Interesting points raised.

I think in regards to the Kunal-Siddhi story, Kunal did promise to try and keep Siddhi happy but I think the Raj-Kunal scene right after Kunal returns after spending the entire post-wedding night out shows how hard it was for Kunal to accept Siddhi and the circumstances. Kunal told Raj that it was hard for him and Siddhi to live under one roof, plus the circumstances surrounding their marriage were not that great either. His brother was dead, his mother was on the verge of dying, the girl he had loved with all his heart was the reason for his brother's death, he was making a compromise and marrying his brothers to be wife and then all the drama Richa created after the wedding and Kunal crying in Raj's arms - I think there were too many things going on and Kunal was very emotional and vulnerable at that point of time. And Kunal's initial rudeness with Siddhi happened maybe due to all this emotional upheaval and maybe he still had some lingering spite for Siddhi because we all know how against Siddhi he was in the beginning. Plus their marriage was a compromise, Kunal was clear their marriage was just for namesake and that they were to live like strangers, thus he didn't like all the karwachauth drama because he was clear on what kind of relationship they share. It was only after Rohit's case that Kunal recognized that Siddhi was truly good at heart and he learned to slowly appreciate and take care of her. This is just my interpretation of things and well Kunal wasn't all that bad initially, he did give her a tissue the first time she cried...😛..That was cute!

Many of the viewers, including myself have in the past discussed these issues & wailed & ranted at the cvs to correct Kunal's choppy, disjointed transformation. Chits, quite recently raised them again & even sent them along as feedback to the people concerned.

The story was advertised as one of hope & second chances. Kunal, at the start of the show was portrayed as someone not very likable, an egotistical, good-for-nothing SOB...fair enough.
S*** happens to the best of us & we deal with it differently. Kunal wasted precious time living the life of a looser with attitude.
Unfortunately, the transformation that the viewers were in wait of, hasn't quite happened yet & there lies the problem. Beyond the fact that he has found "true love" his personality hasn't shown any significant growth. Inconsistencies in his characterization have played havoc with his lopsided metamorphosis.

The bit in red is actually very true. The transformation has happened on a personal front but on the professional side he is still nowhere. On top of that, the CVs never give Kunal's character the opportunity to prove his mettle as a once brilliant lawyer. Every court case till now has ended with Siddhi overpowering him and Kunal's parichay is still about fighting cases against the Thakrals and landing up in jail time and again. I know they are trying to show Kunal's never ending love for Siddhi and all that but its high time they show him as the fallen hero who learns to rise again. Kunal's characters fluctuates too much, at times we get fantastic scenes like the one in March where Kunal managed to outdo the Thakrals and get Siddhi to fight his case and then we get crap like now where he is sitting in jail. Maybe Kunal's brilliance as a lawyer goes up and down like the stock market...😆. The makers really need to pay some attention here but I guess time will tell if they do or do not

Personally, I had no problem with the Kunal Chopra of yore. He was meant to have shades of grey & Samir played the part of the akdu ass**** with elan. The life changing calamity that befell him was supposed to set his transformation in motion & that is where it falls short. His evolution seems to lurch back & forth b/w him being a Neanderthal amidst faint sightings of the emergence of the Homo Sapien.
Somehow, they have managed to show Siddhi's transformation in a more logical manner than Kunal's😕

@paradigm...
s far as Kunal's professional life is concerned.. even I have not seen the soap from the beginning but yes there is one particular episode after Richa's engagement where he tells story to anokhi and ishaani.. what I inferred from that episode is that he fought that case so the girl gets justice against some politician and as far as asking friend to fight the case you know , no one will be ready to fight against Thakaral..and after winning the case he did not get any other case , courtesy thakaral and when he tried different venture, some business..Thakaral did not let that happen too , intervening at the last moment , hence they lost all the money, his girlfriend did not support him. which resulted in his fall and loosing zest in life...

Regarding Sidhi I agree with you completely , even though he promised to keep her happy, he was rude to her , always yelled and shouted on her, misbehaved with her, I remember two such instances where he was at his worst with her, once during the Karwa chauth , when he shouts at her in-front of everyone (family, relatives and society people) and while dancing on ishq sufiyaana, hurting her physically, the way he danced with her , treated her, it was pathetic..
You are right he has always exerted a right on her as a husband from day one, treated her as his property but at the same time did not give her rights as a wife...He shouted on her for reading his diary but didn't mind checking her phone and reading her messages..

Also Regarding Richa I agree with you i have mentioned it several time in other post, his behavior was the main reason why Richa always felt he loved her even after his marriage, till the c-night..any person in Richa's place would have, he rushed to Richa at drop of hat, SINAL relationship, the circumstances of the marriage all pointed to one thing.. as Richa says during her confrontation with Sidhi on the eve of c-night...
Friendship after Marriage has a limit and he has always crossed those limits , has always given more priority to Richa , the best e.g. was the c-night where sidhi was pleading , in fact begging him, not to leave her and go , but he carries on...
so I have the same doubt that you have.. ??
It was he who proposed her and married her for sake of his mother but always taken her for granted and been rude to her...
may be his nature , his bitter past experience, may be over protectiveness or his disliking towards Sidhi were the reasons..
but may be Jay can answer our doubts better..

Kunal has been shown man who is very stubborn when it came to his principles. So not the first case he refused. If I remember correctly; it involved minister's son and a poor innocent girl. So in order to defend the girl against minister's son whom Thakral was presenting; he himself steps in. Given Thakral's reputation, no other lawyer would agree to jump in.

This is what was shown in promos, a man who had lost zest for life. Kunal sure was aware of what his family was going through. After defeating Thakral; Kunal couldn't get a job or any case for about 6 months. So he decides to go into construction were Thakral comes in ruins them. This results in family losing everything. From that point on, Raj stops talking to Kunal. Gaurav no longer respects him as he use to. Kunal sure lost status in society and professional front; he felt he lost his status in family as well. But what really put him down was Richa rejecting him. Kunal still had will to fight but Richa didn't trust it. She wanted Kunal to apologize for doing right (against his family values) and make compromises to ethics and whatever for sake of lifestyle and money. There Kunal realized Richa truly hadn't accepted him as he was. The person he loved (I personally don't think it was love form either side) and person who claimed to love him actually rejects the core characteristics of his being. So in simple term, Richa rejected what defines Kunal. Raj not talking to Kunal also made him feel his father is highly disappointed in him and believes he's good for nothing. Raj says something lie this in 2nd episode and Kunal too was surprises when he hears his father saying how much he believes in Kunal. Yes KUnal's mother and Anand kind of understood him but not as much.
So basically it was not professional failures that threw Kunal in depression, but failures in personal life. His family not being much concerned with him and Richa rejecting him made him feel like a looser in life. People he loved most in a way implied he was looser because of his professional failures. So what is known as cognitive dissonance suggests that if your outside reality is different from your internal belief, soon your internal attitude will match outside reality. So Kunal felt he is a loser and whatever he may try, it is likely he will fail given what happened twice; which will further hurt his loved ones. So that made him give up on life itself. He once says to Siddhi, he should've died and not Anand. Everyone needed Anand while him... doesn't matter much. Raj himself had said when Kunal felt rejected from everything; no one in family bothered with him; only adding to his belief that he is good for nothing. But during that time, he still acred for family; just felt he may not be able to do much for them given he is a looser.
So to me it was what happened in his personal life that made him lose zest for life and that's why I liked CVs show significant evolution in personal life thanks to Siddhi.

I love Kunal but somehow I hate the fact that he has not done a great job of taking care of his family... Even with siddhi while he promised to try and keep her happy at the time of proposing to her; in the intital days of their marriage i never saw him make any effort at doing that. It was only around november that we saw kunal change and become a good friend and companion to siddhi.. my question is when it was he who had proposed and promised things to siddhi why didnt he keep to his promise initially??
The thing with Richa is; she was once an important part of Kunal's life. So he wanted Richa to be happy in her life ahead and being a nice guy he went ahead and helped her time to time. Yes at times it appeared (unintentionally but still) that he is too concerned about Richa. But Richa aware of Kunal's nature tried to create a scenario where Kunal shows his care for her. Although Kunal was clear with her and kept Siddhi in loop time to time about his relation with Richa.

Now the marriage was sure a big compromise for both. Yes Kunal said he would try to keep Siddhi happy, but they decided there will a strict limit to where how far their relationship will come. Siddhi more than Kunal had somehow managed to accept it as it was. For Kunal it was quite hard. First given his experiences with Richa, he was suspicious of all women, idea of love and also against marriage for himself (as seen through his conversation with anand & Veena). So initially he didn't like Sidhdi much as he thought she is no different than Richa. So brushes from Richa had not healed yet. And most importantly fact that Siddhi was Anand's fiance. So these factors had formed a great distance in their relationship to start with. Kunal had said to Raj it will be very hard for him to stay with Siddhi in same room. He thought he will try to make Siddhi feel comfortable and may not interfear much with her life. But at the same time, he wished Siddhi didn't bother him much either. Now incidents such as diary & kadvachuadh were quite threatening for Kunal. Diray was most personal thing of his and most precious possession. He became very defensive when he thought Siddhi may have tried to come closer to him. Kadvachaudh made him feel Siddhi is putting up a fake drama and violating what htey have decided. So reaction were him yelling at Siddhi. Such reaction emerged from his defensive attitude he had formed against women. He felt someone is trying to come close, which may allow them to hurt him like Richa did.
I personally didn't think he acted proprietal towards Siddhi without giving her any rights, but he tried to stop her thinking she is trying to come closer. His sacres from Richa were still there and Siddhi is the one who healed them. See both Kunal and Siddhi tried to understand each other in initial days. Given Kunal's past he became very defensive towards Siddhi's behavior as he didn't understand them very well. Usually in such situation, reaction is yelling with hope that other party will stay away due to rudeness. But Kunal was making attempt of fulfilling his duties. Protecting Siddhi in bus, saying to Veena not to worry as her bahu is also searching for job with him, giving up bed for Siddhi's comfort, restaurant scene, diwali party at Vikraam's place, getting auto to go to work together, giving her roses, helping with case preparation by giving her book, assuring case matter will be out of home, respecting her choice to fight the case, buying her necklace per his promise, turning off AC for her, etc does show Kunal was making efforts to accommodate Siddhi as much as possible.
Yes initially Kunal does appear rude, arrogant, taking a minute to yell but the roots lied much deeper than meets the eye. Kunal truly had never shared what impact his past had left on him and it took him some time to come out of it, thanks to help of Siddhi.

This is what I saw during the time, not that anyone has to agree with it.

Hi Jay
👏👏👏👏 as I agree with you.
One point regarding Kunal checking her phone for messages, he checked the phone when he came to know that it is Richa who is calling and he knows the nature of Takkarals and he was afraid that they may take revenge on Sidhi.
