http://www.india-forums.com/tellybuzz/wassup/11658-television-is-not-an-idiot-box.htm

Now who will believe this - Who needs half truth? Lots of information is just around us - Just open the newspaper and books - who needs TV for this truth

They should include name of the shows that is beyond reality and increase the theory of miracles among the uneducated crowd. Please CV's For once the media is responsible to say truth and if i am not mistaken last Dec- I read an article in one of the newspaper in India while i was travelling- (Due to my hectic schedule - I can not remember the name of the newspaper - but i think i read it on my flight from Chennai to Ahmedabad) there was a debate where it was suggested that media to take initiative and educate people rather than show some abstract things ----

Question of day - TV shows - are they part of media or not?

Hi Bhavi!
Don't know about others but, I definitely don't need an "Idiot Box" anymore to satisfy my hunger for information because I have been gifted a lifelong membership for several international tabloids...

Though I'm not the only one to enjoy this privilege as you along with Amrish, Riddhi & several others have it too.. 🤣

So, all the credit for saving us from "Idiot Box" should go to our "editor-in-chief" PURVI!!! 😃

I suppose everything on the tube in some way would fall under the umbrella of broadcasting media, which is then broken up into different genres. TV shows would evidently fall under the entertainment genre & as such the onus of education shouldn't lie with the makers.
It isn't EK's or any other producer's responsibility to educate the viewers & highlight social causes with every show they air.

Nonetheless, given TV's far-reaching effects, on an audience stretching right across the socio-economic graph, it is wrong, IMO, of the makers to stimulate & instigate regressive practices & beliefs,( ie: our current daima v/s Dr. scene) that go against the grain of modern education.

Bottom line...Don't educate, but at least don't drag the viewers back to the last century.

Now for once i thought you were serious - but again i have been wrong before one more time - 😆
Looks like it is time i go back to my usual morning newspaper rather than this forum news - Atleast that will make me feel something like below:
Duniya mein kitna gam hain
Mera gam kitna kam hain
Logo ka gam dekha to- Mein apna gam bhool gayi and then the whole day i pass in peace -
whereas these false news make me think - should i think or not think?
Should i read or not read?😡

That is exactly my point - On one hand we want our country to progress in 2st century and technologically we are doing it - no second thought about it and on other hand the shows shown drag the mass to the 18th century - even my dad believes that these shows are for the fools - Sorry to all the show lovers but this is purely our POV -

When we receive some news out west regarding the andh shradda - it becomes extremely difficult for people like us to make our surrounding belive that this is just a very low percentage of mass and does not reflect the majority - but then these TV Shows in the name of entertainment make people believe in stupidity -
Yes i know we have a right to switch channel and no one is inviting us to watch these shows but still as you said the far reach of TV - the shows have to be atleast sensible and not just appealing to the uneducated people only.

Well said, both of you agree with everything you said especially Fari's words in bold. I have more to say on the subject, but don't have the leisure now. Will perhaps post another comment later.
