Teaser For Chapter 1
Two months later
Dhara watched Shiva as he played with Abeni happily. She smiled and the frowned again. Today was weekend and Shiva was going to start for the nearby town soon. She looked at Suman who watched her too and then they both signed to each other through eyes. Suman blinked in reassurance. Dhara sighed and turned back towards Shiva who was now kissing Abeni goodbye.
He turned towards the clock and widened his eyes. It was still early but he began his journey a little earlier than this time. He picked up his small bag pack and moved towards Suman. Kissing her on her forehead, he sniffed her.
“Aata hoon Maa! Late ho gaya hai...” He told her.
“Haan beta jaldi ja aur jaldi aa. Raat mat kar dena. Shaam ko suraj dhalne se pehle hi nikal aana.” Suman advised.
“Haan Maa! Saal bhar se jaa raha hoon. Aap pareshaan mat ho.” Shiva pacified her fear. But she still looked at him in worry. Shiva shook his head at his mother and then turned towards Dhara who was watching him with the same concern that swirled in Suman’s eyes. “Aata hoon Bhabhi...” He told Dhara.
“Gaadi kisi ke liye mat rokna!” Dhara advised him and Shiva was suddenly forced to think about that spot where his bike always stopped and also about Roohi. He smiled slightly. “Tujhse baat kar rahi hoon! Muskura kyun raha hai?” Dhara asked. Shiva shook his head. “Gaadi kisi ke liye mat rokna aur koi bhi ho unke taraf mat dekhna!” Dhara told him softly. Shiva nodded.
“Aap kyun itna pareshaan ho rahi hain? Main theek thaak laut aaunga!” Shiva said and then with one last look at Abeni he walked away, leaving Dhara and Suman on pins and needles.
“Maa mera dil bahut ghabra raha hai... Gaimbi se keh kar kisi aur ko bhejne ke liye baat karni hogi. Shiva ka is tarah wahan jana mujhe nahin bha raha!” Dhara told Suman.
“Tu theek keh rahi hai Bhagodi ki beti... Jab se Harivansh aur Raavi ne humse woh sab kaha hai na? Tab se mera mann bhi ashaant hai. Kuch to karna padega!” Suman declared as both the ladies fell into deep thoughts about where it all began, two months earlier.
Two months ago
Dhara hummed to herself as she walked towards the main door with two utensils in hand. One was for curd and the other for milk. The sun wasn’t yet out but she was always accustomed to getting up early. Suman was off to finish her morning rituals and all her brothers in law were sleeping. Gaumbi too was sleeping in the room.
She saw Shiva sleeping and smiled. The previous night he had come late and she had missed his arrival. Or he usually gave the account of whole day before he slept. He was sleeping haphazardly on bed and she frowned as she saw jasmines all around his bed and on his sleeping form. What in the world?
She placed both the utensils aside and walked towards him, settling beside him and picking up jasmines one by one from his hair and arms. Where did this come from? He smell of a mixture of pleasant perfume and jasmines. She was sure it wasn’t him who had applied perfume because he wasn’t that kind of a person. Then what was this?
Dhara shook her head at this weirdness and got up from beside him. She will sweep it away later, she thought and walked towards the main door again, picking up the utensils on her way. She opened the door and was dumbfounded again. Right on the verandah were more jasmines amidst the Jasmines were trails like someone had walked over the flowers whole night. Dhara gulped. Her spine chilled.
“Dhara Beti?” She heard Gopal Kaka and turn to see him watch the flowers with curiosity before he took the utensil from her and filled it with milk. “Yahan kal raat koi function tha Beti? Aisa lag raha hai jaise kisi ne phoolon ki chadar bicha kar swagat kiya hai kisi ka...”
“Nahin Kaka. Main to khud hi pareshaan hoon.” Dhara replied. Gopal nodded and then after greeting her, he rode away on his bicycle. Dhara still stood there and watched the flowers again. And when she was turning away with the milk placing the utensil for the curd on the verandah, she saw her. A beautiful young girl smiling at her sweetly but her spine tingled again and she felt herself tremble. Something was off about the girl.
“Dhara? Laa dahi de doon.” She heard Hansa call out and turned for a second. When she turned towards the girl again, she wasn’t there anymore.

So Roohi was a ghost? This is getting so interesting. I have no idea where this is going, but excited to read more.
