Why is Shiva uneducated?

New viewer here. Can someone explain to me why Shiva is uneducated? It looks like Dev and Krish both are educated, so why is Shiva the odd one out? Also, is he just uneducated or is he also illiterate? He may not know English, but does he know how to read and write in Hindi or Gujarati at least? And if he didn't go to school, what was he doing instead? Helping out at the Pandya store?

I just started watching the show after Dev and Shiva got married, and it's quite interesting. I end up agreeing with every character at different times (including Rishita), so I see that this isn't a run of the mill bahu vs vamp story. It's more of a family story with different characters who have opposing opinions/emotions. Even Suman is such a great character. I love hearing what she says in Gujarati (I'm Gujarati myself and her Gujarati is so on point). And as a matriarch, she is the perfect mix of protective/strong. Her interactions with Dhara have been interesting too, kind of sweet & spicy (like when she tries hitting Raavi's aunt with a stick but Dhara comes in between and Suman says because of kaagdi, her bacchi got hurt). Even Dhara isn't a doormat FL type character. I've seen her be stern with all three brothers, Rishita, and Raavi when necessary. But she's also very warm and motherly. So basically, Dhara, Suman, and Shiva are my favorite characters so far.

Shiva did not want to go to school while Gaumbi did manual work. May be he did go to school but did not go to college- nothing stated clearly yet

No one here really knows the answer to that..., so we're just about as clueless and eager to know the truth as you are!

Pre-leap, Shiva was not interested in going to school and actually preferred to help Gaumbi in the store (after noticing how much work Gaumbi put in), but Dhara insisted he go to school and not neglect his studies.

In other versions, Shiva's character dropped out of school at different points (in one version it was very early childhood (therefore, couldn't even read) and in the original, it was after 10th). In those versions, the Shiva character was also mocked for being uneducated, so we have been hypothesizing whether Shiva has completed his education (on Dhara's insistence) or whether he dropped out due to some external cause.

Whatever the case, I do think he knows how to read and write. He seemed to be involved with the store's invoices and that requires knowing basic reading at the minimum.

When they were kids , shiva got into fights in school too often....due to family problems, other kids used to mock.shiva and pandyas ... This enraged him and he got into a fight and the principal kicked him.out of the school. Gombi and dhara tried their best to convince him(or was it her ) but he didn't budge. Gombi and dhara looked for another shool.for Shiva and got him admitted there.. due to financial.crunch , and pandya store sealed , gombi had to take up labour work to meet the ends. Shiva couldn't see him like that ..he thought gombi is doing all this so that the three.of them.could study n he cud pay their fees. Hence Shiva decided to.drop out from the school and.help gombi in raising the family , so that krish and dev study ..

It's their luck, Shiva got an idea of getting the pandya store papers Bck from the moneylender , dhara helps them

.once they had the papers they could open the store , paid the bank in emi, and with both gombi and Shiva s hard work, they were the owners of ps again. Dhara also helped them by selling home made food items. Basically it's bec of the three of them that krish and dev cud finish their education and live a better life.

In Tamil version he dropped to help his brother as they still had a lot of debts and could not afford to hire anyone. Initially it feels like kathir(Shiva) dropped out because he did not study well but they later find his 10th standard report card and Mulla(Raavi) gets to know that he scored distinction and then they show him opening up to her about why he had to sacrifice. Right now there, a track about Raavi getting him to pursue his studies through distance education is going on, only they both know about it right now.
