"SiddhantThakur..Rajasthan Rifles..Indian Army"
I begin my post with these lines for they are extremely close to me as a die-hard POW viewer and also because this man needs to be explained and understood on so many levels.
I'll be extremely honest when I say that I was royally disappointed with the defence hospital being taken as a hostage for terrorism has no justification. What shocked me was the duality of Siddhant/Sadiq's thought. On one hand he condemned the Peshawar school attack which made him lose Hussain, but on the other hand he used terror as a weapon to prove his point, to make the Government officials accept his demands. Now that is highly paradoxical! You can't resort to the same means which you despise at the very beginning. But then I guess for this to be understood we need to understand Siddhant Thakur a little more deeply.
So let's look at the various phases of Siddhant.
Pre-Kargil Phase:
We see a jovial guy, who loves his sister to death and is equally passionate about his country. He is a trained soldier, knows his strengths and is ready to give it back to the enemy in their face. He is the strong, dutiful, Indian soldier one can always boast of but at the same time he is the vulnerable, emotional brother who wants to see his sister settled. He is that kid who has grown up thinking his sister to be his world, his girlfriend, his mother and most importantly his strength. Siddhant's strength lay in his vulnerabilities, in the emotional connect he had with his sister. Remember he tells shobha, "Sir ke saath wapas aunga.."..He also goes on to add, "Jab aaunga then let's be a family"..A family that probably he always wanted to have. He was strong yes, but he was extremely emotional and vulnerable too.
Post-Kargil phase/ Prison phase:
We find a guy who speaks non stop. The moment he is introduced to Imaan n Sartaj he goes out of his way to strike a conversation, to befriend them but gets no response in return. Yet he doesn't stop. He goes on and tells them about his life, his sister and everything that probably was in his heart and he wanted to say it loud. I remember him telling Imaan n Sartaj that "Kehne ko toh bohot kuch hai lekin sunne wala koi nahi." He wants to talk, share his feelings but until Sartaj n Imaan came into the picture he was all alone. He had no one to converse with. And the vacuum was filled when he found his fellow countrymen share the same cell with him. We find Siddhant cry at the helpless situation, tired of the repeated torture and abuses and being on the verge of giving up. He remembers his sister, misses the times spent with her and laments that he might never ever get the opportunity to meet her again. That's Siddhant Thakur for you . Vulnerable. Pained. Scarred.
Lala's Haveli Phase:
Cut to Lala's Haveli. Sid wakes up to find himself injured and lying at Lala's Haveli and when he inquires about Imaan n Sartaj the first thing Lala tries to do is make him hate them. But Siddhant doesn't . Its the vulnerable and emotional side of Siddhant that doesn't let him buy Lala's theory of Sartaj choosing Imaan over him. He doesn't look convinced for he knows in the heart of hearts they weren't at fault.
Lala realises his plan won't work and so he decides to play an even bigger game.
Enters Hussain, Siddhant's solace amidst countless sufferings. He called him Dushman but went on to become his only source of light. The vulnerable Siddhant was exposed, for him Hussain was not the son of the ISI chief, but his friend, the only friend across the border. He gifts Siddhant the Quoran Sharif as eidi which goes on to become one of his valued possessions.
The vulnerability which was exposed infront of Shobha, imaan and Sartaj went on to be exposed infront of Hussain. Lala's plan worked. What 15years of hatred couldn't do, a ten year old did in just a span of few months. That's Siddhant Thakur for you. What could break him was not hatred, not torture but love and affection. And Lala having realized that played on.
The Peshawar attack was planned cleverly. And Hussain was used as a bait even more cleverly. Lala knew if anything could affect Siddhant it will be Hussain. He made Siddhant believe that Hussain was killed by terrorists, who were sponsored by the ministers and corporate honchos back in his own motherland. Yusuf went on to add salt to his wounds by saying that certainly he won't be affected as for him Hussain was just his 'Dushman'. But Siddhant knew what Hussain meant for him. And so did Lala.
People would question that how come a well trained soldier like Siddhant went on to buy the logic of his country being involved? Did he not know that he was midst his enemies and that they were trying every possible move to brainwash and feed him a lie? But what we tend to forget is human beings are ever hungry for love and affection. It doesn't matter whom we get it from. It doesn't matter who we are. Whether soldiers, or civilians. But love and humanity is an universal language known to all. And each of us yearn for it. Knowingly or unknowingly. Siddhant was no longer thinking as a soldier but as someone who was attached to Hussain, whose vulnerable side Hussain had witnessed.
Lala knew Siddhant won't believe in a theory that spoke of hatred and terrorism, but in something that spoke of humanity, compassion and love for all. And that's where he twisted his 'maqsad' and made it look like a war to save humanity, a war to end country sponsored terrorism. For Siddhant it really did not matter which country was talked of, all he knew was he had lost someone close to him and he had to prevent such further loses. His hatred for Thadani and Govind Mehta increases by leaps n bounds. He wanted to avenge Hussain's death and probably hundreds of such deaths that happen all over the world owing to terrorism. But little did he know he was being used as a pawn in this gamble. Little did he know that the Hussain he was fighting for was never dead, and that the maqsad that he set out to fulfil was hollow and baseless.
It was Lala's plan to make an Indian be the face of his war with Hindustan and he did it easily, exploring Siddhant's vulnerabilities to the T.
I am not defending Siddhant when I say that he was exploited but then that's the reality the makers wanted us to see. The extent of manipulations and brainwashing that people are subjected to in order to make them believe in something that's probably isn't there. Now I know why Anurag always spoke of illusions. Siddhant could never see the truth for the lie was fed to him in the name of humanity. He had always loved his country, infact he still loves his country but then probably he loves the ideology of humanity even more.
Love is too strong an emotion, even stronger than hate I believe. And often we see love winning over hatred, with Siddhant too love won over hatred. What Hussain could do to his mind, 15 years of torture couldn't. Cause Hussain triggered the vulnerabilities in Sid once again.
Even today Siddhant said, "I am not anti-India, I am just pro humanity". This is who Siddhant Thakur is.
Certainly not a villain. But a man who knows the language of love and compassion.
P.s: I don't know whether I made much sense but I needed to write this.
P.P.S: I still feel the attack in the hospital needs to be justified and Sid can only redeem himself if he saves the civilians out there. He reprimands Ibrahim when he fires at Thadani Corp and this guy certainly has some ulterior motives. He is certainly not Sadiq ka wafadar. He is Jaish ka wafadar. So he will definitely believe in the ideology of bloodshed and hatred over humanity.
The reason why Sid looked shocked in today's precap on learning about the firing at the hospital is because he himself is unaware of what must be going on!
P.P.P.S: I exactly know what Siddhant would do on knowing the truth and honestly I'll be loving him for that. And Anurag is pure loooveee!😳
