"SiddhantThakur..Rajasthan Rifles..Indian Army"
I begin my post with these lines for they are extremely close to me as a die-hard POW viewer and also because this man needs to be explained and understood on so many levels.

I'll be extremely honest when I say that I was royally disappointed with the defence hospital being taken as a hostage for terrorism has no justification. What shocked me was the duality of Siddhant/Sadiq's thought. On one hand he condemned the Peshawar school attack which made him lose Hussain, but on the other hand he used terror as a weapon to prove his point, to make the Government officials accept his demands. Now that is highly paradoxical! You can't resort to the same means which you despise at the very beginning. But then I guess for this to be understood we need to understand Siddhant Thakur a little more deeply.

So let's look at the various phases of Siddhant.

Pre-Kargil Phase:

We see a jovial guy, who loves his sister to death and is equally passionate about his country. He is a trained soldier, knows his strengths and is ready to give it back to the enemy in their face. He is the strong, dutiful, Indian soldier one can always boast of but at the same time he is the vulnerable, emotional brother who wants to see his sister settled. He is that kid who has grown up thinking his sister to be his world, his girlfriend, his mother and most importantly his strength. Siddhant's strength lay in his vulnerabilities, in the emotional connect he had with his sister. Remember he tells shobha, "Sir ke saath wapas aunga.."..He also goes on to add, "Jab aaunga then let's be a family"..A family that probably he always wanted to have. He was strong yes, but he was extremely emotional and vulnerable too.

Post-Kargil phase/ Prison phase:

We find a guy who speaks non stop. The moment he is introduced to Imaan n Sartaj he goes out of his way to strike a conversation, to befriend them but gets no response in return. Yet he doesn't stop. He goes on and tells them about his life, his sister and everything that probably was in his heart and he wanted to say it loud. I remember him telling Imaan n Sartaj that "Kehne ko toh bohot kuch hai lekin sunne wala koi nahi." He wants to talk, share his feelings but until Sartaj n Imaan came into the picture he was all alone. He had no one to converse with. And the vacuum was filled when he found his fellow countrymen share the same cell with him. We find Siddhant cry at the helpless situation, tired of the repeated torture and abuses and being on the verge of giving up. He remembers his sister, misses the times spent with her and laments that he might never ever get the opportunity to meet her again. That's Siddhant Thakur for you . Vulnerable. Pained. Scarred.

Lala's Haveli Phase:

Cut to Lala's Haveli. Sid wakes up to find himself injured and lying at Lala's Haveli and when he inquires about Imaan n Sartaj the first thing Lala tries to do is make him hate them. But Siddhant doesn't . Its the vulnerable and emotional side of Siddhant that doesn't let him buy Lala's theory of Sartaj choosing Imaan over him. He doesn't look convinced for he knows in the heart of hearts they weren't at fault.
Lala realises his plan won't work and so he decides to play an even bigger game.
Enters Hussain, Siddhant's solace amidst countless sufferings. He called him Dushman but went on to become his only source of light. The vulnerable Siddhant was exposed, for him Hussain was not the son of the ISI chief, but his friend, the only friend across the border. He gifts Siddhant the Quoran Sharif as eidi which goes on to become one of his valued possessions.

The vulnerability which was exposed infront of Shobha, imaan and Sartaj went on to be exposed infront of Hussain. Lala's plan worked. What 15years of hatred couldn't do, a ten year old did in just a span of few months. That's Siddhant Thakur for you. What could break him was not hatred, not torture but love and affection. And Lala having realized that played on.

The Peshawar attack was planned cleverly. And Hussain was used as a bait even more cleverly. Lala knew if anything could affect Siddhant it will be Hussain. He made Siddhant believe that Hussain was killed by terrorists, who were sponsored by the ministers and corporate honchos back in his own motherland. Yusuf went on to add salt to his wounds by saying that certainly he won't be affected as for him Hussain was just his 'Dushman'. But Siddhant knew what Hussain meant for him. And so did Lala.

People would question that how come a well trained soldier like Siddhant went on to buy the logic of his country being involved? Did he not know that he was midst his enemies and that they were trying every possible move to brainwash and feed him a lie? But what we tend to forget is human beings are ever hungry for love and affection. It doesn't matter whom we get it from. It doesn't matter who we are. Whether soldiers, or civilians. But love and humanity is an universal language known to all. And each of us yearn for it. Knowingly or unknowingly. Siddhant was no longer thinking as a soldier but as someone who was attached to Hussain, whose vulnerable side Hussain had witnessed.

Lala knew Siddhant won't believe in a theory that spoke of hatred and terrorism, but in something that spoke of humanity, compassion and love for all. And that's where he twisted his 'maqsad' and made it look like a war to save humanity, a war to end country sponsored terrorism. For Siddhant it really did not matter which country was talked of, all he knew was he had lost someone close to him and he had to prevent such further loses. His hatred for Thadani and Govind Mehta increases by leaps n bounds. He wanted to avenge Hussain's death and probably hundreds of such deaths that happen all over the world owing to terrorism. But little did he know he was being used as a pawn in this gamble. Little did he know that the Hussain he was fighting for was never dead, and that the maqsad that he set out to fulfil was hollow and baseless.
It was Lala's plan to make an Indian be the face of his war with Hindustan and he did it easily, exploring Siddhant's vulnerabilities to the T.

I am not defending Siddhant when I say that he was exploited but then that's the reality the makers wanted us to see. The extent of manipulations and brainwashing that people are subjected to in order to make them believe in something that's probably isn't there. Now I know why Anurag always spoke of illusions. Siddhant could never see the truth for the lie was fed to him in the name of humanity. He had always loved his country, infact he still loves his country but then probably he loves the ideology of humanity even more.
Love is too strong an emotion, even stronger than hate I believe. And often we see love winning over hatred, with Siddhant too love won over hatred. What Hussain could do to his mind, 15 years of torture couldn't. Cause Hussain triggered the vulnerabilities in Sid once again.

Even today Siddhant said, "I am not anti-India, I am just pro humanity". This is who Siddhant Thakur is.
Certainly not a villain. But a man who knows the language of love and compassion.

P.s: I don't know whether I made much sense but I needed to write this.

P.P.S: I still feel the attack in the hospital needs to be justified and Sid can only redeem himself if he saves the civilians out there. He reprimands Ibrahim when he fires at Thadani Corp and this guy certainly has some ulterior motives. He is certainly not Sadiq ka wafadar. He is Jaish ka wafadar. So he will definitely believe in the ideology of bloodshed and hatred over humanity.
The reason why Sid looked shocked in today's precap on learning about the firing at the hospital is because he himself is unaware of what must be going on!

P.P.P.S: I exactly know what Siddhant would do on knowing the truth and honestly I'll be loving him for that. And Anurag is pure loooveee!😳

Loved what u have written that for Siddhant love and compassion is what matters...Humanity is above else for him.

But then few things we have to keep in mind

Yes Sid was emotionally vulnerable but he was always a very intelligent man too with a strong reasoning.
Remember he was the one who pointed it out to Vikram that the lead is wrong..what Vik couldn't sense Siddhant sensed.

Remember he was known as Bulls eye sid...his aim is perfect ! Vik told Shobha that 'Sid ko jitni baar bhi target ke saamne khana karoge vo bulls eye hi marega, apne kuch miss nahi kia , Yeh Mauka phir aega'...I still feel this will come true

Remember when he first met Imaan and Sartaj he said that he keeps information of everyone and correctly figured it out that Imaan was a senior airforce officer...how well informed he always was.

Yes he was emotionally vulnerable but he was also the BEST SOLDIER , A VEER CHAKRA AWARDEE...he was also a brilliant soldier.

Yes all he is doing is for the greater good...for humanity...but Sid also knew that Lala was a terrorist and the creator of Jaish - a terrorist organisation...he knew that Jadun was a part of Lala's group and they were responsible for killing many such Hussains and Rohans whom Sid wants to save now.
So, on one hand he wants to avenge death of many such innocent kids but on the other hand trusted a terrorist like Lala and is taking help of terrorists like Ibrahim who must have killed many Hussains and Rohans.
He was an emotional man os true but he was never a naive man is also a fact.

One thing I know is that SIDDHANT IS NOT A TERRORIST!

I still have hope in him and for him ...I am hoping for a happy ending for all
I wish writers do justice to this amazing, brilliant character...for me he is the best written and enacted character on TV and I hope he remains the same writing wise till the very end !
Anurag will nail it till the very last scene I am sure.

Beautiful post & analysis by you on sid . Hussain's innocence won him over & he loved him like his own . The anguish , pain he had felt when Hussain died was a life turning event for him . He gave up his religion, beliefs for him . I loved your analysis on all the stages of sid shown in the show so far . From a carefree, passionate , enthusiastic, jovial young men he underwent a 360 degree transformation to a silent , cold , mature Jaish commander . Even when he was trapped in that cell he wasn't lost . He had hope & retained his spirit & love for his country despite all the tortures. He kept remembering his sister every sec which was his only ray of light . He loved her so much never forgot her for a second. Today he is blinded by the wrong agenda & manipulation of Lala .he is on a wrong path & sadly that path doesn't lead to a happy ending for him or his family .

A very beautiful post and a great read on Sidhanth.
Honestly it's very wrong of anyone to judge a person or even a soldier who has been through so much in 17 years. Someone who has taken the brunt of extreme, unspeakable torture but also someone who has experienced how it is to be loved by someone in an alien land - genuine love. An emotion so strong that it makes one forget all the boundaries and limits. Totally understandable!
But this same person had a mind of his own. An intelligent man who knew the enemy well. He lived with the enemy, saw the blind hatred that existed there for a particular country, his country. He had access to the ISI, did he really not see the game they play against their neighbours? Did he not notice the section of that country which blames India for every attack that takes place there without any substantial evidence? After every attack, the group responsible for the attack take responsibility and the Peshawar attack was also owned by a particular terrorist group, so he decided to believe Yusuf and Lala over the group who accepted responsibility for it ( staying with terrorists for so long he should be knowing terrorist groups do not take responsibility randomly - they do so only if they are involved).
In homeland Brody believing Abu Nazir was believable because all know America conducts drone strikes in various countries and a lot of innocents have died because of it but that is not the case with India.

Sidhanth had every right to mourn Hussain, be angry at his death and angry at those people who killed him but not at a country that had nothing to do with it just because Lala said so. Being there, knowing how things work in Pakistan he should have trained his guns at the actual enemies of humanity - the people with whom he lived there.

EDITED: After pausing and thinking a bit, I think maybe I am being a little judgmental. Just wish we had a stronger reason for a man like Sid to turn or maybe I was expecting too much from him and he was always the easiest one to break emotionally. Guess Hussain's death and the indoctrination stopped his thinking capacity as he turned into Sadiq from Sidhanth. It's been such a tragic journey.

Behna amazing analysis
U hv brilliantly put it up
Love is the strongest emotion and the love for anyone can make you do anything that is unexpected from you
Hussain was his only solace and after years of torture Hussain's love, care n innocence acted as balm to hia bruises, gave him a reason to smile n love and when that reason was brutually killed he was shaken, broken and felt a part of him dying and as they say hit iron when hot Lala did same
He gave him a shoulder to cry, sympathise him and very smartly n lovingly taught him how Arms Biz is responsible cos Sid wont accept India to be involved but he can accept an Indian's involvement
So Sid has two reasons-one to avenge Hussain's death and other to prove or show that he did loved Hussain truly
Itna kafi hai na lol

Amazing write-up!
For me Sid is a really emotional person. Even more than the intelligent soldier he was. Lala played with this same quality! Gave him love & care & hope when he had given up all hopes to live. Exactly how radical Islamists brainwash gullible youths & recruit them into their camps. Give lectures on humanity blah blah & teach them to kill people in the name of the same humanity. And it is a well known fact that if you want to emotionally manipulate & brainwash a person to get him to your side, always show him love & care in his worst time. Show him that you're there for him. Show him how good you're and he'll be yours forever. Exactly what Lala did. Yes I did complain about how someone like Sid can fall into his trap in such a short span of time but somewhere it does make a bit sense. Though the time period that they showed could have been longer. Lala did everything to win his trust. Saved him, cared for him, agreed to his demand of letting Imaan & Sartaj run, got him married to his daughter, gave him his position... everything that a person would give only to his near ones.
Imaan too admitted that there was a time when even he used to think Lala is their savior. Sid toh experienced it first hand. This is the difference between them and us. They can even betray and play games with people who are loyal to them. Alas we straightforward people dont have this "quality"
So Sid was actually not as intelligent as we perceived him to be. There are few situations where emotions always win over logic & intelligence. Sid's situation was one of them. He was really attached to Hussain and which is why his thinking capacity was clouded by his emotions. Even Vikram made a mistake of blindly trusting a Pak returned POW like him. Because he was emotionally attached to his student Sid & thought he could never go wrong. But logically he should have kept an eye on his activity since the day he kept his feet back on the Indian soil.

I cant wait for Sid to know the truth. The guilt is going to be so huge. He just cant stay alive after that. And this is how my fav character is gonna end :(

P.S. I never knew about Anurag before this show. Whattay talented guy! Plus his good looks help a lot too *_*

Wonderful analysis .. well few days ago I was watching an English show and there was a dialogue, "pure evil can be made only corrupting pure good." Probably, that's why Sid turned a terrorist (he has definitely caused terror so that makes him a terrorist if we go by the words) .. Lala manipulated him with one thing which could be the weak as well as the strongest point of a person like Sid i.e. humanity. Lot of people can't believe an intelligent person can fall for Lala's trap but the fact is has nothing to do with intelligence. Lala was playing with the vulnerable point of the man. The same way we see top notch students to join terrorist groups .. it's simple brainwash. It has nothing to do with someone's intelligence. Even a strong willed, honest, and brilliant mind can be corrupted with constant manipulation. This is what Joker did to Harvey Dent, this is what Hitler did to Germany ( remember his theory - repeat one lie 10 times, people will start to believe the same as a truth). So, that's what Lala did to Sid .. he was affecting Sid's psyche to which even the strongest men can fall weak. I don't blame Sid for that neither I feel that's impossible. But, that doesn't stop me from being angry on him. It's a real complex feeling I have for him where I feel bad and feel immense hatred for one man at the same time. It's weird but nothing is impossible when it comes to human psyche.

In my opinion, Sid is he 2nd worst sketched character on the show after Sartaj. Obviously the best is Imaan. POW was great until it was revealed that Sid had ulterior motives. The weakest points of the show have been Sartaj-indira storyline and Sid/sadiq storyline. On one hand he claims that he loves India, he loves humanity and on the other hand he worships lala. Ok. Its understandable that he believes that Thadani killed Hussain and that's why he hates him. But then, why worship lala? He himself was a part of Kargil war. Doesn't he realise that Pakistan attacked India. He has seen with his own eyes terror camps in Pakistan. He was an Indian soldier. Dis he ever come across a single terror camp in India? Its so foolish of him to believe that someone in India orchestrated attacks in Pakistan. He knows that Lala got salim killed. When Lala was trying to bomb NSA with a plant bomb, Sid was watching tv live. He knew Lala is a plain cold terrorist. Yet he worships him and still claims he is on the side of humanity. That's plain ridiculous. He asks Indian govt. to pay for the losses of pakistani kids dead in school attack. Why didn't he ask money from pakistani govt. for Indian casualties?

Besides, if he really believed thadani is a crook, he could have pursued him through lawful means. If he had any proofs against thadani, he could have shared them with vikram and take his help and bring thadani to books. No need to play terrorist.

Its all stupidity. And director and script writer must take the blame for it.

Had it been shown that Sid had no knowledge about pak's terror camps, or Lala's plan to bomb NSA then his turning might be justified. But even after knowing everything, he gives Lala and Pakistan clean chit and blames Thadani and Mehta. That's ridiculous. I'm disappointed. The show should have ended with the return of Sid.

Or else, a better storyline would have been if an angry Afreen had come to India with the motive of revenge but acting as she still loves Sid and wants to live a normal life with him in India. And then Sid stopping her. That storyline would have been much more credible.
