| Salesman! "I don't have a biwi at home to nag me all the time. Hence I've all the time to host shows for television," says funster Sajid Khan who adds with a poker face, "I'm not a good comedian." Let's laugh along with him and count our goodies as he busily hosts Star One's Super Sale. ON THE TV FRONT: Hosting the Har Sale Ka Baap Super Sale on Star One (Mon-Fri, 7.30 pm) Sajid declares, "It's ironical that I had started my career with a similar game show, Tol Mol Ke Bol, (Zee TV) a decade ago." He asserts that his show is different from Kaun Banega Crorepati, "Participate in my show and you could end up as the face of the month, unlike in KBC where you are there only for one or at the most, two episodes. In my show the winner can continue till the time he wants to quit." Super Sale is a Q&A related one that tests participant's general knowledge and follows the ground rules of the original Australian show. One can participate in it by logging in to the website indya.com. In this exciting fun show the contestants need to brush up on their general knowledge and also entertainment quotient in order to tackle queries posed by Sajid. Talking further, Sajid quips, "Imagine buying a new mobile phone worth Rs. 4000 for just Rs. 40 or a brand new washing machine worth Rs. 20,000 for just Rs 20! But this is possible on my show. Each episode of Super Sale features three contestants who challenge each other over different rounds of the game and go on to collect Super Sale Rupees (SSR) to buy attractive items at special Super Sale Prices (SSP). Neeti Mohan, the young star of the pop band Aasma provides the glamour quotient." The game begins with 20 SSR handed over to each of the three contestants. In a succession of heated rounds, Sajid puts forward a series of questions. The first one to hit the buzzer and provide the correct answer wins further 5 SSR. Contestants giving incorrect answers lose 5 SSR. As the rounds progress, Sajid and Neeti tempt the contestants to spend their winnings at the Super Sale Gift Shop (SSGS) which offers a host of exciting items at Super Sale Prices. He says, "People ask me why I'm only anchoring film-based comedy shows on television instead of acting in serials. I tell them that the last time I acted in a serial called Acting Acting for Sabe TV, it flopped. As for hosting shows, I don't believe in a written script for any of my television shows. My scripts are in my head. Of course, you need a script when you do a film or a serial, not otherwise." In the offing is yet another chat show called Mardowali Baat to be produced by Sajid in collaboration with Ravi Behl which will shortly be aired on Star One. ON THE FILM FRONT: Sajid has just directed one out of the six stories of Ramgopal Varma's Darna Zaroori Hai. He's also set to launch his first full-fledged youthful comedy as a director, titled Hey Baby. It will star Fardeen Khan and Ritesish Deshmukh with two new girls. He says, "My brand of comedy may be over the top but then I know where to draw the line." After his debut in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Jhoot Bole Kauva Kaate his next acting project is Indra Kumar's Pyare Mohan. He has been cast with Boman Irani and informs, "We play a father and son. No one has had the guts to cast me in a film after Hrishida till now." Any roles on Super Sale? Huh? |
