Chapter 2:

January 13, 2014. 9:00 am. A.B. Creations Office, Delhi.

There's a lot of people interviewing for the new position at A.B. Creations. Navya is overwhelmed to see so many people. She is getting more and more nervous as her interview time is inching closer.

Oh God! There's so many people here...how will I ever get the job? What if they don't like my portfolio? Oh no, I can't do this. I will never get this job!

Navya gets up from her seat and goes to the door. Just as she is about to open the door to leave the office, her phone rings. It's Ranbir's call.

Navya: "Hi bhaiyya."

Ranbir: "Hi Navya. I'm sorry I didn't get to see you this morning but I wanted to call you and say all the best! I know that you will do great and definitely get this job!"

Navya: "But bhaiyya there is so many people here and they all probably have such good designs. What if I get rejected? I can't do this bhaiyya! I'm coming home."

Ranbir: "Navya! Stop! Don't leave that office. If you can see the talent in other people, why don't you see the talent in yourself? You are no less than anybody else Navya! You are a great designer and you know it. You got a full scholarship to NYU because of your talent and your hard work. Please don't underestimate yourself. I believe in you Navya! Now get back into the office and show AB Creations what you've got!"

Navya: "Thanks bhaiyya! You're right! I should be confident about my work! I will try my best for the interview."

Ranbir: "And that's all I'm asking from you. Just do the best you can! Love you Navya! Go rock it!"

Navya: "Bye bhaiyya!"

After talking to Ranbir, Navya felt much more confident and relaxed. As she sat back in her seat, her name was called for the interview.

"Ms. Navya Mishra."

"Yes ma'am."

"Ok so we have pre-screened you already based on the portfolio you submitted to us. Now, we would like to see you design a mannequin. You will have 30 minutes to design an outfit for a corporate event. All the materials you may need are in that room and your time starts now. Good luck. "

"Ok ma'am. Thank you."

January 13, 2014. 10:00 am. Anant's House.

Anant: "Daadi please! No more food...I can't eat anymore and I'm getting late. There are interviews going on in the office and I have to be there soon."

Daadi: "Ok last bite Anant, mere haath se khaalo."

Anant: "No dadi I really have to go. Bye! I'll call you later! Love you!"

Daadi: "Love you too beta! Have a good day!"

Oh no, I'm really late! Hopefully Sana(his PA) has everything under control. There are some good candidates who have applied but let's see how they do in the mannequin task. I really need to find someone who can handle doing both Indian and Western designs. Chalo, let's see what happens.

Anant arrives at the office just as Navya is finishing up her mannequin.

January 13, 2014. 10:30 am. A.B. Creations Office, Delhi.

Anant has reached the office. At the same time, the 30-minute design period is over and all the shortlisted candidates are asked to go back and wait for the decision in the waiting room. Anant enters the workshop and Sana updates him about the interviews thus far. She briefs him about the candidates that she has short-listed and shows the mannequins to Anant. He examines each mannequin slowly and eventually reaches Navya's mannequin.

He stares at the design for a long time without saying anything. Eventually Sana breaks the silence.

"Is everything ok sir?"

"This mannequin. Who designed it?"

"Navya Mishra."

"Navya... the one from NYU?"

"Yeah sir, that's her. Honestly I found her to be a bit quiet and shy, I don't think she's cut out for this line of work. She seemed to kind of fade into the background. No personality."

"Ok that's enough of your analysis Sana. I want Navya in my office in the next two minutes. Got it?"

"But Anant..."

"No ifs or buts Sana, just do as you're told."

"Yeah Anant."

Anant is sitting in his office with his back to the door. Navya knocks.

Navya: "May I come in sir?"

Anant: "Yes, come in. And please, I don't like this sir business, just call me Anant."

Navya: "Ok sure sir. I mean Anant."

Anant: "Please have a seat Ms. Mishra."

Navya: "Anant, if you don't mind, I like to be called Navya, not Ms. Mishra."

Anant laughs lightly: "Ok sure Navya. Anyways, I like your confidence. Your resume shows that you graduated from NYU and have won many design competitions in the US also. And your mannequin design was also intriguing. So can you tell me why you want to work here at AB Creations?"

"Because I love you sir."

Hearing this Anant turns his chair around to face Navya and looks at her shocked: "Excuse me?"

Navya blushes: "Oh I'm sorry Anant. I meant I love your work. I'm a huge fan of your designs and I think you are a great inspiration. I really want to learn more from you but I think I can also bring a lot to this company with my fresh ideas."

Anant thinks: What was Sana thinking? How could she say this girl has no personality. She's brilliant! No overconfidence about her accomplishments and so much eagerness to learn.

"Ok Navya. I think we're done here. You can collect your appointment letter from the front desk. Oh and also ask Sana to give you the Kapoor file. Read it, memorize it, and be here tomorrow morning at 9 am sharp with 3 new designs."

Navya was in shock from hearing this news from Anant. She couldn't contain her happiness so she jumped up and screamed. Seeing Anant in front of her, she controlled herself.

"Thanks so much Anant. I really appreciate this opportunity. I promise I will try my hardest."

"Good to hear that Navya. I'll see you tomorrow morning bright and early."

"Ok Anant. Bye, see you tomorrow!"

With this news, her appointment letter, and the Kapoor file in her hand, Navya left AB Creations. On her way home, she bought sweets for her family. When she got home, she told everyone the news and they all hugged Navya and congratulated her!

January 13, 2014. 6:00 pm. Mishra House.

Ritz and Navya are working together to set the dining table for dinner. Ritz is telling Navya about what happened at her college today.

"Navya, you know my professor said that I should think of opening my own business after I graduate."

"Really Ritz? That's awesome. So do you have any ideas?"

"Actually yes, I do. I'm going to write up a proposal first though and then tell you about it."

"Okay sis. You just let me know when you are ready?"

January 13, 2014. 9:00 pm. Anant's room.

Anant is sitting in his bed and thinking about his day.

Navya Mishra. Finally I met you today...after 15 long years. What happened to you Navya? You used to be so mischievous and naughty. Your eyes...ah, your eyes. That's what I remember the most from our childhood. Those big, brown beautiful eyes. Playful but very innocent. But what was it that I saw in your eyes today? Pain? Sadness? I don't know what has happened to you in all these years but I do know that the only thing I missed about Delhi in all these years is you. Every memory about Delhi used to bring me only pain and anger but when I thought of you, I would become happy again. It's only the memories of you that have kept me going all these years...
