Have no feet, but will dance
Vinod Thakur from Nach Baliye 6 is the first differently abled contestant on the show. Vinod, who doesn't have legs, amazed everyone with his incredible moves. Supporting him is wife Raksha who is perfectly normal. Vinod says that their love story faced many roadblocks before culminating in marriage.
Recalling their first meeting, he says, "Initially I was not interested in dance. One day my friends saw a differently abled dancer performing and encouraged me too to try it. My talent amazed everyone and I went on to start my own academy. Raksha, who lived in my colony, had heard about me and decided to join my class. That is how we met. We would travel together for performances and she would look after and eventually we fell in love."
As was expected, getting their parents to agree to the match was an uphill task. "When I told my family about marrying Raksha they were worried about how I would look after her but they agreed to speak to her family. Her family refused to let us marry because of my condition and our caste differences. But she was determined and fought with her family when they stopped her from attending classes. I also tried convincing them but nothing worked. So finally both of us decided to leave home and get married in a temple," Vinod says.
The dancer says that though he is happy to be with his ladylove, he does rue that they couldn't have a traditional wedding. He reveals, "I am in talks with the producers to see if we can have a proper wedding on the show, since our real life wedding was a hurried affair."
