Hi everyone!
I usually don't like starting topics but decided to do something different and make a topic for this forum.
Balaji is known for producing terrible serials, but they always start off with a bang. Ekta knows how to catch the viewer's attention and since this is a finite weekend show, hopefully she won't take it down the path of destruction as she does with her other shows. Now...onto my review
Overall, it was another good episode-very gripping. Naagin may be clichd, but it is an hour of full-fledged entertainment for me. I'm not too critical of the show, which is why I enjoyed it so much. Sometimes it is just better if we don't think too hard about what we see.
The Good
Tanvi and Ritik: I understand why he is marrying her, but don't know if a marriage without passionate love can last long. It looks like a marriage of convenience to me, but him it is not and I guess it is fine as long as both parties are happy. Contrary to others, I don't mind tanvi and I'm not going to dislike her just because she is his fiance. She and ritik share a relationship based on friendship, honesty and trust. If not for shivanya, then ritik could have fallen in love with her during the course of their marriage as tanvi seems like a lovely girl. Love how transparent their relationship is, Ritik was able to be honest about shivanya because his conscience is clean. To be honest, I hope writers don't turn tanvi into a plotting vamp because I like her now and I want to see a heartbroken girl, which will make her much more relatable as opposed to a stupid vamp. There is already enough masala.
Ritik+shivanya=Rivanya: Seriously, these two share beautiful chemistry. Usually, Chemistry between a couple takes a while to develop but the spark between them was visible just from their scene together. Nothing Can beat the firefly moment but the cliff scene was magical, especially ritik's smile as soon as he sees shivanya. Writers gave us rain scene but it wasn't the typical romance wala, their interaction there was subtly romantic. Even the scenes at her house was good, the cute nok jhok and ritik was so at ease in her company. Shivanya continues to be an enigma but ritik is an amazing character. He does not believe in love and religion but does not look down upon those who do. Writers have a tendency to turn these kinds of characters into mean jerks in other shows, but ritik is a sweetheart. I love him and Arjun Bijlani breathes life into him through his sincere portrayal-he is fantastic at emoting through his eyes.
The pace: there is no dragging, everything is straight to the point. The show wasted no time getting to the meat of the plot. This makes it even more engaging.
Also, Adaa is doing a good job. She is the bad girl but I hope she is not portrayed as a one dimensional vamp. Maybe she is a nice person who has been poisoned by revenge and hate. I finally saw some real emotion in her when she saw the picture of the Raheja's at the mansion, she looked hurt. I hope we get to see a different side to her.
The Bad
Yamini: she is getting on my nerves. Sorry If I offend any sudha chandran fans here but she is over the top. I understand she is playing a paranoid, over-anxious mother but why can't she do it with more subtlety? The actress has played negative characters for most of her career and I see that over the top acting visible in this role as well, It is hard leave that type of acting behind and adopt a completely new style and it is ruining this character.
Background score: The background music is too loud, I had to press mute many times because my ears hurt. The dhols, mandir bells, lightening sounds all together is too much. Maybe editors should experiment with creepy suspenseful music and not something that blows off our ear drums.my mom complained that she could not hear the dialogues due to loud background sound. Balaji should get with the times, if they are trying to bring forth a modern story then maybe they should stop using background scores that sounds as if it from the 90's.
Sapera/Pandit ji: Again, over the top. Scenes with him grated on my nerves because he was yelling every dialogue. Makers should realize that they can portray intense scenes without the actors shouting their lines. Please creatives, tone it down!
Now onto some theories
I don't think Shivanya is a part of this revenge plan otherwise she wouldn't lie about her marital status. Her goal would be get ritik to fall for her, that will be hard as long as he thinks she is married. However I still think she is a naagin and that is why she wants ritik to stay away from her. I'm not sure what her goal is but it could be that she just wants to lead an unassuming life as a normal human girl. We'll most likely see a classic tale of good Vs. evil, perhaps shivanya's powers will cancel out Sesha's and she will act as a unintentional shield.
That is all for now. Hope you liked my review
