May be, they happened to do a some small mistake out of courage in childhood, but ended up getting severe punishment.

May be, they were over protected since childhood and given no big reponsibilities.

May be, they grew up in a smaller world, and once they came to the real world, they became defensive. Because you know, we always fear the unknown.

This mindset can be changed. I mean a man always gives his best in the time of crisis. I believe in this.

He might not be showing his true courage because he might really not know how much courage he has. He has to go through a process of self discovery, and it will happen only when he faces a crisis.
