When we love someone whether family, friends, spouses, we fail to see their faults. Even if we do, we have a tendency to minimalize them.

It cannot be denied that Mahirji also has a maternal streak in him, one of best virtues.

It also cannot be denied sometimes he is a control freak. It's very difficult to give a word or make a promise and stick to it, he usually commits this mistake. He also goes ahead and gives his word on behalf of others actions. That is impossible. Others actions are not under our control.

When yula wedding was starting at the initial part of the story, it was clear that Mahirji knew of his brothers "likes and "tastes. He was clear about the fact that if a woman is willingly marrying him then that's her decision as she is a educated adult. Ofcouse that was before Bela!
But once he develops a bond with bela, he assures her, repeatedly, that he himself will make sure yula marriage is a success. That was wrong, no one can do that, Mahirji or not!

Further when he sees yuvi in compromising situations, he still keeps chanting yuvi will change for better. He goes to an extent of sleeping in yuvis room for the night, we all know what he was doing. He knew what his brother was capable of.

But when yuvi disappeared, he went into shock how he can do that ( we all will agree though the reason of disappearance was different, it was within the possible realm for yuvi to ditch bela on wedding day). He had two issues here, his primary one was, failure of his words. That issue was strong enough to make him sit in mandap under sehra without consent!

He knows somethings are wrong with yuvi, he doesn't know to what extent. See I don't understand Chinese, it's impossible for me to have thoughts in Chinese. Just like that he is a good man, it's impossible for him to think like an abuser! He cannot even comprehend to what level yuvi had fallen. For Mahirji the maximum he can do is yell, scream, break his things and point finger. He can angrily say I'll destroy you and stuff.

Just like before wedding, he is still in denial. The day he realises a gang rape was attempted by his brother, fury and punishments will follow later, he will be ashamed to look into her eyes!
