Adlabs bags rights of Aap Ka Suroor NEW! By Rohini Bhandari
5 June 2007, 10:00 AM

MUMBAI: Adlabs has acquired the worldwide distribution rights of Himesh Reshammiya starrer Aap Ka Suroor.

Confirming the same to Businessofcinema.com, Adlabs COO film distribution Sunir Kheterpal says, "We will be distributing Aap Ka Suroor theatrically."

However, Adlabs is distributing the film worldwide barring the Delhi, UP and Punjab territories. The rights for these territories have been acquired by Dolly Films.

Aap Ka Suroor, which is Reshammiya's debut as an actor, is slated for release on 29 June. It also stars Mallika Sherawat, Raj Babbar and Hansika Motwani.

Himesh dons actor's cap

Stella Turner

Tuesday, June 5, 2007: (Mumbai):

Himesh Reshammiya certainly knows how to stay in the news.

So much so that as he gears up for the release of his debut, semi autobiographical film Aap Ka Suroor his headgear can become news.

"There is a 10-minute thing where I will be seen without the cap," said Reshammiya.

Besides this there is another 10-minute sting by Mallika Sherawat. The sultry actress makes an appearance in a role that apparently cost the producers a tidy sum.

"It's not a 10 minute role but a 30 minute role and she's the negative lead of my film. She has been given what she deserves and these are all rumours," said Himesh.

There are other rumours doing the round that he and Ram Gopal Varma's Sholay have a song in common.

It means that the two new mehbooba versions will be hitting the charts at close to the same time.

"I have the copyrights to mehbooba and have retained the melody of the song. DJ Akbar Sami has done a bit of remix but its different from Ramujis Sholay," said Himesh.

Now the big question is will audiences run in to see Himesh play himself in this true-life story?

If the success of his songs is anything to go by then who knows he could get the box office dancing too.

Hello all!

@ Ash: Yeah, I've seen the promos of the movie... I'm excited! 😃 I just never liked Hansika (šŸ¤”) much but let's see if she is able to change my opinion!

@ Jem: Yeah... finally heard them all and have them all! In love with Tera Mera Milna! 😳

I've heard a few songs of Apne, not all of them but I like what I've heard! I love Mehfooz and Aankh Vich Pyaar Da Chehra! 😳

Himesh insists that his students sing contemporary songs only on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, thus riling the other judges

Himesh Reshammiya
Whether it's for his recordings, acting ambitions or TV appearances, Himesh Reshammiya is constantly singled out for acting uppity. Recently on Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa he was caught up in another controversy over his rigid stance on the choice of songs for his protges.

A source from the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa team says, "Known for always being the one to discover true music, based only on talent and riyaaz, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa has had participants who can sing to any genre. For instance, a participant is asked to sing a Kishore Kumar and a KK song in the same episode. And based on the versatility of the voice, the performer is given his points. But Himesh always asks his gharana to sing songs with a Sufi touch, so Rahat Fateh Ali and Atif Aslam are his favorites for his students."

This rigid stance of the musician-turned-actor does not go down well with the other judges like Vishal-Shekhar, Bappi Lahiri and Ismail Durbar.

The source adds, "The other gurus want the participants to sing various styles. Time and again we have told him to change his selection of songs and incorporate some old songs!

"But Himesh insists he isn't fond of old songs. He says that he doesn't want his gharana to starve without work, just sitting in a competition and experimenting. He wants them to earn money and if this style makes them become good singers, then it is only that style that Himesh will hone."

Reluctant to upset Himesh, the producers are playing along. But the other gurus are quite unhappy with his rigid stance.
