'Her music is a gift of the Gods which she plays at the service of the nation' said Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

MS is a gift from God to Carnatic music. Nobody can ever expect to sing it like this, which enchanted anyone who heard it.

Only after hearing MS Subbu Laxmi did I begin to like and appreciate Carnatic music. M S is a gift to classical music devotees and a blessing to the music world, combining devotion and melody.

Smt. MS Subbulakshmi and Smt. Radha Viswanathan sing a composition of Shree. Mysore Vasudevacharya in Raga - Khamas .

Sarojini Naidu repositioned her own title of Nightingale of India on to Subbalakshmi’s avian frame, it was because that daughter of Bengal saw the gift of song arriving and alighting on this daughter of India’s south, like a migratory bird from the collective genius of our music.“

Even if Subbalakshmi merely recited the words of her songs without singing them, God would rather hear them than anybody else.smiley10

For a long period, I listened to Bhaja Govindam every day. Bhaja Govindam and Soundarya Lahari are two outstanding writings by Sri Adi Sankaracharya that promote diametrically opposed views of Bhakti.

Bhaja Govindam, by Sri Adi Sankara, can serve as both an introduction to Vedanta and a reminder of many scripture principles. It is an extremely simplified synthesis of the teachings of the fundamental books of Vedanta, particularly the Bhagavad Gita.

Music : Traditional

That is one very eloquent write-up in the first post, LizzieBennet!

Here is Subbulakshmi singing Lakṣmaṇ'Ācārya's Nāma-Rāmāyaṇa.

I have posted the full lyrics in the Ramayana Katha private forum, in the discussion of Viṭhobā Aṇṇā Daptaradāra's Nāma-Rāmāyaṇa that is twice as long. If you join the forum, the link below will work.
