I haven't sung for Himesh in the last 10 months...' '...maybe this one was recorded even earlier!' Sure, we believe you, Sonu Nigam
PRIYANKA DASGUPTA Times News Network
In a recent interview, Himesh Reshammiya has been quoted as saying that there is no tension between him and Sonu Nigam. Media, the perpetual scapegoat, has been blamed for misquoting him. Reshammiya has apologised and even claimed that Sonu has also sung for a number in his forthcoming film, Apne! That, was good news for those who believed music is uniting warring minds.
When CT got in touch with Sonu, the singer said, "I haven't sung for him in the last 10 months or more. So, may be this one was recorded even earlier!" And that, for sure, tickled the curiosity bug in those who've been fed on the Sonu-Himesh spat stories. On being asked whether Sonu is now ready to forgive, the singer said he didn't wish to be a part of what he called a 'one-sided controversy'. "There hasn't been a single interview of mine on this subject... neither when he started it, nor when he decides to end it," he said. A dignified way, one must say, to douse any antagonistic flames.
Yet. Twenty-year-old Sahana Chatterjee who had attended Sonu's recent Kolkata concert, felt that since celebs know that spats generate interest, they often add fuel to the fire. "At the show, I was blown over by Sonu's sarcastic, spicy and indirect dig at Himesh when he sang Dil vich lagiya and Just chill. Sonu even began singing Just Chill with a nasal twang. Celebs wish to keep the tiff rumours going. Even politicians do the same. They chat over drinks in the evening and the next day, they hurl abuses at each other in the Parliament."
Sonu-Himesh apart, prominent in the are-theyenemies-or-friends list are the Bachchan-SRK tiff, the Kajol-Rani, the Lata-Asha tiff. In the first episode of Star World's Koffee with Karan, SRK said: "His family is nice to me, kind to me and I'm kind to them. We get along very well, whenever we meet at home and I have to keep on justifying, it's a little embarrassing at times... Now I've become used to it." Even though SRK finds it 'embarrassing' to field the tiff questions, he too has given loaded answers to questions regarding his tiffs in the media.
Insiders
say that celebs fighting the so-called cold wars are quite cordial to each other in private spaces.
Psychoanalysts will know better whether they are going the politician way by using their emoting powers and making open-ended comments (I want to do better so SRK can copy me: Big B) to cash in on the tiff-hype. "Wanting to be in the news by making loaded comments could be a possibility," said psychoanalyst Seema Hingorani, adding, "But then, a celebrity can also get carried away emotionally and pass inconsistent comments."
