Aadesh prefers star singers to newcomers
Subhash K. Jha [Sunday, May 07, 2006]

Mumbai, May 7 (IANS) As Salman Khan is all set to record for Aadesh Shrivastava in the film "Babul", the Bollywood composer says he prefers star singers over aspiring professionals.

He says that Khan has rehearsed the song and was ready to record the song soon.

"Before Salman left for his world concerts he rehearsed the song. We sat over it the whole day. Now we are finally ready to record. The minute he returns, any time after June 13, we will do the needful."

Talking about the song, Shrivastava says: "It is a rocking bhangra number for Salman, unlike any other Bhangra song. It will be as novel as what I got Bachchan saab to sing in 'Major Saab' and 'Baghban'.

Shrivastava, who has tapped the talents of newcomers in the upcoming film "Alag", says he has had his fill of newcomers and aspiring singers.

"I do have talented new singers like Hemachandra and Ujjaini singing in my soundtrack for 'Alag'. But from now, no more new singers for me... I am more challenged by getting stars to sing for me. Amitji has sung one song for 'Babul'. I want him to sing the title song also."

However, he is all praise for Hemachandra, the finalist of the nationwide music competition Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.

"The boy comes from a family of trained singers. He knows what he is singing. I have made him sing for Abhishek Bachchan in Subi Samuel's 'Alag', while I have made Nihira, another Sa Re Ga Ma Pa finalist, sing for Preity Zinta."

Despite giving a break to these newcomers, Shrivastava says he would still prefer to stick to established singers like Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghosal and his wife, Vijayta.

However, he is quick to add: "I will not thrust Vijayta down any producer's throat. But if producers want her, why not? So far I have done nothing for her."

Further, the composer was disappointed when Sandeep Acharya won the "Indian Idol" position over his rival Karunya in Sony's nationwide musical competition. "Karunya was far more accomplished."
