CHAPTER – 1

[ BHUSHAN MANSION ]

Since morning,the preparation of welcoming the Sharma Family has started.The house was cleaned and decorated properly.Raghuveer and Gayatri were themselves taking care of it.Adhiraj had to take the whole responsibility of their office since Raghuveer was not attending.Naina took care of the kitchen and Disha took care of Nupur.Uday brought a very beautiful saree and the jewellery preordered by Disha.Nupur was sitting in front of the mirror quietly without any ray of hope on her face.While Disha was tying up her hair,Nupur said to herself in her mind,"Log kehte hai ke maayke aur sasural ki zindagi ek dusre se bohot alag hoti hai.Maayke mein ek larki azaad panchi hoti hai,jaise chahe apni zindagi jee sakti hai aut jaise chahe uraan bhar sakti hai par meri zindagi…"She mockingly laughed in her mind and continued,"Meri zindagi ko to aajtak khulkar saans lene tak ka mauka nehi mila.Hamesha meri saanso ko rok kar rakkha gaya,mere pankh barne se pehle hi hamesha katar diye gaye,zindagi jeene se pehle hi mere pero mein beriya daal di gayi.Agar isey maayke ki azaadi kehte hai to sasural ki zimmedaariyon bhari zindagi kaisi hogi?Kya ek larki bas maayke aur sasural mein hi pees kar reh jaati hai?Kya ek larki shaadi se pehle maayke waalo ki aur shaadi ke baad sirf sasural waalo ka hukum maanne ke liye hi paida hui hai?Naina aur Disha bhabhi to is ghar mein kitni khush hai phir main khush kyu nehi reh paayi?Kya larki bankar janam lena itna bara paap hai?"Her chain of thoughts were broken on Disha's words.She asked,"Dekh to Nupur kitni pyari lag rahi hai?"Nupur glanced at her image on the mirror and sadly smiled,"Mere kehne se kya hota hai bhabhi aur aajtak mere chahne se bhi kuch nehi hua.Jo bhi ma aur papa ki marzi hogi vohi to hoga na.Mujhe to bas unke saamne saj dhaj kar bethna hai."Disha understood the deep pain inside her heart.She kissed on Nupur's forehead and said,"Pata hai meri ma kehti hai ke jis insaan ko apne zindagi ke pehle hisse mein khushiya nehi milti usey dusre hisse mein zarur milti hai.Tujhe apne ghar mein to khushiyo ki ek baarish bhi naseeb nehi hui to tu dekhna tere sasural waale tujhse bohot pyar karenge."Nupur replied,"Ye sab kehne ki baatein hai bhabhi.Meri haatho ki rekhaao mein to bhagwaanji khushiyan likhna hi bhul gaye hai."Disha sat in front of her and said,"Dekh Nupur ye shaadi sab kuch hamaari niyaati ka khel hota hai.Hum sirf dua kar sakte hai isse zyaada aur kuch nehi baaki to vohi hona hai jo hamaare kismat mein likkha hai.Par main ek baat jaanti hu ke aajtak tuney jaanbujhkar kisike saath bhi bura nehi kiya hai to tere saath bhi bhagwaanji kabhi bura hone hi nehi denge.Bharosa rakh."Nupur replied,"Aur bura hone ke liye bacha hi kya hai bhabhi?Maine to ab zindagi se ummeed lagaana hi chor diya hai.Meri zindagi jaisi thi hamesha vaisi hi rahegi.Vo kabhi nehi badalnewaali."Disha said,"Itna negative mat soch.Jo hoga achcha hoga.Mujhe bhagwaanji par pura bharosa hai.""Pehle ye dua karo ke larkewaalo ko ye pasand aa jaaye,phir baad mein ye saari baatein usko araam se samjha dena Disha."Both Disha and Nupur turned towards the door and found Gayatri standing there.Nupur became very terrified to see her mother and she grabbed Disha's hand in fear.Gayatri entered their room and said to Disha,"Pehle isey ye sikhaao ke larke waalo ke saamne pash kaise aana hai.Vo sabse zyaada zaruri hai kyuki ye log inke bohot achche dost hai."She then said to Nupur,"Aur tum aaj aisi koi harkat inke saamne mat karna jisse ki hamaari naak kate aur hamaare izzat par aanch aaye kyuki agar aisa hua to tumhaare papa tumhe zinda nehi chorne waale.Yaad rakhna meri ye baat."Nupur,in a trembling voice replied,"Ji…ma."Gayatri left and a tear of helplessness rolled down on Nupur's cheek.Disha hugged her and said,"Tu dar mat Nupur sab thik ho jaayega."Saying she patted on her back.

At the appropriate time,the Sharma Family arrived in BM.Everyone welcomed them whole heartedly.Mayank's father Maanav Sharma and Raghuveer were very good friends.SF has their own business.They were seated on the sofa and very hearty chat started between the family.Mayank was all the time sitting quietly and was just smiling on their chats.Gayatri asked Mayank,"To beta ab karte kya ho?"He replied,"Ji vo auntyji Mumbai mein jo hamaara branch hai main usiki dekhbhaal karta hu."Raghuveer said,"Arey ye to bohot hi achchi baat hai.Itni kaam umar mein itni bari zimmedaari sambhaal li.Keep it up my son."He then said to Maanav,"Sahi kehte hai beto ki jagah koi nehi le sakta.Bete hote hai to aisa lagta hai ke kaandhe abhi bhi mazbut hai.Tu bohot lucky hai ke tere paas teen teen bete hai."Mayank's mother Suhaasini said,"Arey nehi bhaisaab,inhe to betiyaan bohot pasand hai tabhi to hamaari bahuo ke saath inki bohot jamti hai aur isiliye jab unhone Nupur ki photo dekhi to kaha yehi banegi hamaare Mayank ki patni."Maanav said,"Ha Raghu,bete bhale hi mazbut kaadhe hote hai par betiyaan ghar ki lakshmi hoti hai unki baraabari kisise ho hi nehi sakti."All were laughing and talking.Naina served them the food.Suhaasini asked,"Hamaari Nupur beti kaha hai?"Gayatri said,"Ha abhi aati hi hogi."Saying,she signaled Disha.She immediately went away to bring Nupur.

As soon as she reached Nupur's bedroom,Disha said,"Nupur tere honewaale sasuralwaale sach mein bohot achche hai.Agar teri shaadi yaha hui na to vo tera bohot khayaal rakkhenge aur tujhse bohot pyar karenge aur jo Mayank hai na vo bhi bohot achcha hai.Abhi jaldi chal unhone tujhe bulaaya hai."Nupur was obviously very tensed and seeing her face Disha said,"Tu dar mat kuch nehi hoga vo log sach mein bohot achche hai."Saying she took Nupur outside.From the time Disha went to take Nupur,Mayank's eyes were stuck on the stairs only.He was impatiently waiting to meet Nupur from the time he saw her photo.It appeared to him as if he would die if he doesn't meet her.Suddenly Gayatri said,"Ye lo aa gayi Nupur."The moment Nupur started coming down through the stairs,Mayank's eyes just glued on her face.It appeared as if the whole earth has stopped revolving and the time had stopped there.Nupur slowly came and stood in front of them but didn't meet her eyes with anyone.She took Mayank's parents blessings.Suhaasini got up from her seat and went towards Nupur.She held her chin and said,"Kitni pyaari aur sanskaari bachchi hai."She said to her husband,"Suniye ji mujhe ye larki bohot pasand hai."Mayank was all the time staring at her like a dumb.Suhaasini asked,"Beta kya naam hai tumhaara?"Nupur slowly replied,"Nu-Nupur."Her voice appeared to be a musical flute to Mayank.Gayatri asked,"Nupur Mayank ko chai do."She,with baby steps walked in front of the table and picked up the cup.Very slowly,she forwarded the cup to Mayank and raised her eyes to look at him.Mayank gave her a cute smile.Nupur was very nervous from the beginning and seeing an unknown person smiling so lovingly,added to her nervousness and the cup slipped from her hand and fall on Mayank's hand.He lightly screamed with pain.Everyone especially BF were cautious.Nupur was very scared to see this.She looked around and found that her family were glaring at her and seeing this she started crying.She apologized to Mayank but she was unable to talk properly.She stammered,"I-I-Iam so-so-sorry.Mujhe ma-ma-maaf kar dijiye.Maine-maine ye sab ku-ku-ch jaan bujhkar ne-nehi kiya tha…"Mayank was about to console her when Gayatri asked Naina to give some medicines to him.So Naina took her away.Nupur scarefully looked towards Disha and she cared her face asking her not to worry.Mayank returned within a minute.On seeing him,Nupur joined her hands and pleaded for his apology,"Please mujh-mujh-mujhe maaf kar dijiye."She already started having hiccups.Mayank felt very pity for her.He said,"Koi baat nehi.Main…samajh sakta hu…aap bohot nervous hongi.Zyaada nehi jala hai.Its ok."Suhaasini noticed the way,Nupur was scared,so,in order to mend up the situation,she called nupur,"Nupur beta aao mere paas betho."Nupur looked at Disha and then her mother.Gayatri signaled her to obey Suhaasini and so she went and sat beside her.Suhaasini very lovingly wiped her tears and said,"Beta tumhe maafi maangne ki koi zarurat nehi hai.Aisa to har larki ke saath hota hai.Ye to bohot maamuli baat hai.Tumhe pata hai mere saath kya hua tha?Jab mayank ke papa mujhe dekhne aaye the na to main to itni nervous thi ke mere haatho se chai to choro puri tray hi gir gayi thi unpar.Main to bohot dar gayi thi ke pata nehi inke gharwaale kya kahenge par mere sasuralwaale to has has ke paagal ho gaye the aur…""Aur sach bolu to…"Maanav continued,"Maine to tumhaari maasumiyat ko dekh kar hi tumhe pasand kar liya tha.Par ab samajh mein aa raha hai ke bhagwaan bhi shaayad usdin mujhpar has rahe the ke jisey mein maasum samajh raha hu vo baad mein jaakar mere ghar ki karak Prime Minister bannewaali hai."Everyone started laughing at their discussion.Maanav said,"Mere ghar mein mere saare bete apni ma ke taraf hai aur bahuein meri taraf.Itne din mein minority tha par ab to meri party bhi equal hone waali hai.Beta tu mere side mein hi rehna ha."Hearing this,Nupur too smiled.Mayank,all the time was very tensed seeing Nupur crying like that,but now he gave a sigh of relief.At first,he thought he will talk with her alone but,later on he dropped that idea.He understood that Nupur was a very sensitive girl and he had to deal with her with a lot of patience and understanding and to say the truth,Nupur's innocence touched him to such a great extent that he decided that if he would have to marry then he'll marry Nupur only.In one word,he fall in love with Nupur on that day only.Both Suhaasini and Maanav approved Nupur as Mayank's would be wife.Suhaasini made Nupur wear her family bangles and cared her face very lovingly.She kissed on Nupur's forehead and said to BF,"Aaj se Nupur hamaari hui."Nupur was very touched by the way Suhaasini behaved with her.She was surprised thinking a mother could love her child like that since she never knew what was mother's love.Raghuveer asked,"Pehle Mayank ki razaamandi to le le?"Everyone looked at Mayank and he said,"Ji mujhe is shaadi se koi aitraaz nehi hai."Nupur gave a sigh of relief that Mayank accepted not because of him but because now her family would not say her anything.Literally Mayank saved her from her family's plight.She was aloso happy thinking that might be Disha's words will come true this time and she would get a family where everyone will love and respect her.Maanav asked Nupur,"Aur beta tumhe?"Gayatri said,"Isme isse puchne ki kya zarurat hai?Jo hamaari pasand hogi vohi iski pasand hai."Suhaasini replied,"Nehi bhabhi.Zindagi in dono ki hai to faisla bhi inhi ko lena chahiye.Bolo beta?"Nupur gave a terrified look to gayatri and then replied,"Jo…jo ma papa ki marzi hai usime meri khushi hai."Raghuveer and Gayatri gave a sigh of relief.At this both the families were very happy and exchanged sweets and wishes.Suhaasini said,"Hum panditji se baat karke sagaai ki taarikh tey karke aapko bata denge."The SF got up to leave.While they were walking towards the door,Mayank secretly looked at Nupur and said,"Main aapke liye kuch laaya tha socha tha ke agar ye rishta pakka hua to main ye aapko gift karunga.Ye lijiye."He gave her a small packet.Nupur at first was thinking whether she should take it or not since she never received any gift from any unknown and neither she ever took it.But still with shaking hand,she took it,thinking that if she didn't Mayank might feel bad and her alliance might be broken.Mayank smiled and started walking outside.Nupur too accompanied him.Before leaving,Suhaasini invited everyone for lunch in their home so that Nupur can be introduced to their family.After that they left.While starting the car,Mayank smiled at Nupur and bid bye to her and Nupur,too smiled formally and then Mayank drove back home.
