R e m e m b r a n c e D a y.

This day is observed in Commonwealth countries since the end of World War 1 in the memory of those who lost lives in the line of duty. There are various other dates that are also recognized as Remembrance Day in non commonwealth countries. The 11th of November saw the formal end of the hostilities of World War 1 in 1918 and the golden words of "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" are finely engraved in hearts of millions.

World War, also known as the Great War, was the first global war, centered in Europe. In the summer of 1914, Europe experienced the beginning of one of the deadliest war in the history of humanity in the form of World War 1. It began on 28th July and lasted for over three years, in which more than 9 millions combatants and 7 million civilians lost their lives. It was, without a doubt, one of the deadliest conflicts in the history of humanity.

The first event that made way for the war was on 28th June 1914 after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand by 19 year old Gavrilo Princip, who was supported by the Black Hand, a nationalist organisation in Serbia. A diplomatic crisis was set when Austria-Hungary delivered an ultimatum to the Kingdom of Serbia for the justice of the murder. Within weeks, the powers enjoined hands together and thus began the devastating World War 1.

For Canada, this day is even more memorable as it was after the end of World War I that it was recognized on a global level as an independent country.

In 1914, Canada was a self-governing dominion of the British Empire, but it did not control its own foreign affairs. After the Batter of Ypres, Canada began to function like a separate country internationally.

After having demonstrated the ability and independence of Canada through the battle of Ypres, Britain allowed the country the right to create their own foreign policy. And thus began the beginning of the successful country that Canada is today.

Let's have a look at few of the most important events that led up to the World War II:

https://i.imgur.com/5cG5sGZ.png

On September 30th 1938 , a Munich Pact was signed and Czechoslovakia was virtually handed over to Germany in the name of Peace. Germany dominated the Czech nation after this pact. The government of Czechoslovakia tried to appease Hitler but it failed. In early October 1938, Hitler demanded Slovakia's independence and it was given which meant complete dependence on Germany.

Slovakia got its independence on March 1939. On March 15th, 1939, after the appeasement failed, Czechoslovakia was occupied and invaded by the forces of Hitler. On the Alter of the Munich Pact, a nation was sacrificed. it was infact a vain attempt to prevent imperial aims of Germany. This invasion showed that Hitler lied at the Munich pact as it was just a negotiation ploy by Hitler to delay the Fuhrer's blood and land lust.

On June 22nd 1941, the invasion of Soviet Union by Germany began. The code name for this invasion was Operation Barbarossa which was named after the medieval Holy Roman Emperor Fredrick Barbarossa. On December 18th 1940, Hitler authorized the invasion. This was largest military operation by Germany during World War II. Germany wan victorious and occupied Soviet Union's major economical areas. However, the German offensive was stalled outside Moscow.

They were pushed back by the counter offensive of the Soviets. They also failed to take over Leningrad and other major parts. The Germans being unprepared were forced into war of attrition by the Red Army by repelling the Wehrmacht's strongest blow. This led to the failure of Operation Barbarossa.

In the year 1941, on December 7th, Japan attacked the Pearl Harbour. Imperial Japanese Navy carried out the surprise military strike against the United States naval base which was situated in Pearl Harbour. The Pearl Harbour attack by the Japanese led the United States of America to enter the World War II. It was intended that the attack was a preventive measure to keep the U.S Pacific Fleet from interfering in the military actions which the Empire of Japan was planning in Southeast Asia.

https://i.imgur.com/a0b07DL.png

This military action was against overseas territories of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and the United States. Japan had a major tactical victory because of this attack. Also, as a result of the Pearl Harbour attack, U.S. declared war on the Empire of Japan, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States and US entered the World War II.

The military over run of Nazi Germany was conducted by the Western Allies in the final months of European Theater during World War II is known as the Western Allied invasion of Germany. It took place in the time period between March 19th and May 8th 1945. The invasion started with the crossing of Rhine by the Western Allies before the Germans surrendered.

The last major failing by the German offensive exhausted their strength. As a result they were ill prepared for resisting the final blow by the Allied campaign in Europe. This Allison led to the Allied Victory. The Nazi Germany fell and this led to the end of World War II in Europe.

After the World War I ended, The League of Nations came into being. The work of the League of Nations was to ensure that no war took place between the countries again. People looked upto the League of Nations after the Treaty of Versailles caused turmoil so as to bring stability in the world. In 1917, America entered the World War I. Everyone in the county got horrified seeing the slaughter that took place. This part of the world was known as the civilized world, but the slaughtering scared the nations and the people. To avoid such disasters and prevent them from ever happening again, an international body was created.

The soul purpose of the international body was to maintain peace in the whole world and avoid any kind of disastrous war from taking place. The task of the League of Nations was to sort out the international disputes whenever and wherever they occurred. The League of Nations activities finished when they failed to prevent the World War II.

The intergovernmental organization which was established in the year 1945 on October 24th was named as The United Nations or UN. The then United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt used this name first in the declaration by United states on January 1st 1942 during World War II. The UN came after the League of Nations. UN was formed in an effort to solve the problems which challenges humanity of the world effectively. More than 30 affiliated organizations who came forward to co-operate in this effort makes the UN. All the members work together to promote human rights, gender equality and also the advancement of women.
50 organizations met for a meeting to pull up and sign the United Nations Charter at the United Nations Conference on International organizations. The charter was signed on June 26th 1945 by the representatives of the 50 countries, and later Poland also signed it making it 51. The United Nations was officially formed on October 24th 1945 when China, France, The Soviet Union, The United Kingdom, The United States signed the Charter. Every year on October 24th the United Nations Day is celebrated all over the world.

Tragedies, like we know, are an unfortunate part of life. They surge into our moments and cause a stir of happenings within our self and our surroundings. You see, its essential to take a few moments to remember those tragedies, to step back and address the situation. Some moments of our life require us to be unpretentious- to see, to commemorate, to salute.

Remembrance Day has amazing beauty in more ways that we will ever understand; while it does unveil the tragedy of the two world wars it provides us the time to understand the hidden corpses of our society. We've all seen, or perhaps just heard, tragedies in many shapes and forms. Terrorist attacks, natural disasters, poverty, being just a few. Remembrance Day allows us to remember these events, to understand the effects and to address the damages.

World War I and II have changed human history on a scale too drastic to express. However these two wars are one milestone in a journey encompassing endless tragedies. 9/11 was a tragic event that caused a stir that shall never settle. The inhumane act not only took the lives of several innocents but also made people realize the horrors they may face.

https://i.imgur.com/89dTcd9.png

The 2008 Mumbai Attacks is another event that caused many to pass away, the event till date still creates tremors within many lives. The earthquake in Pakistan in 2008 caused a death toll of nearly 75,000 while the Cyclone Tracy in Darwin wiped away everything in sight.

These events were horrifying and heartbreaking to surreal extents; some just want to wipe the date from their minds completely. Yet Remembrance Day reminds us to never forget. In an almost subtle way, Remembrance Day allows us to dwell yet move on from the past. On this day, we commemorate those who died to ensure that their lives aren't ignored. We acknowledge the bravery of many, those who fought against the odds. We celebrate the overcoming of these events, we acknowledge the love and care we posses for one another during these times and of course, we salute our soldiers and neighbors.

https://i.imgur.com/MPm9Xm7.png

On this date, we Crazy Creatives, ask you to wholeheartedly take part in Remembrance Day. At 11/11 (at 11am) exactly, the world will pause. We shall be silent. Not for peace or calm, but for acknowledgment, for unity..for Remembrance. Take these two minutes of your time and pause to show your love and appreciation for those who have suffered or helped overcome the many tragedies our world has faced.

Regards,

The sacrifices the heroes made gave us the world we see today. But it came at a heavy cost. We'll forever be grateful to the sacrifices the heroes made, and continue to make even today.

Well done guys!
