Hello Friends Today is Guru Purnima
it is also known as Vyas Purnima
The full moon day in the Hindu month of Ashad (July-August) is observed as the auspicious day of Guru Purnima, a day sacred to the memory of the great sage Vyasa. Vyasa was the sage who compiled the four Vedas, 18 Puranas, the Mahabharata and the Srimad Bhagvad.

this festival has great importance for Indian academics and scholars. Indian academics celebrate this day by thanking their teachers as well as remembering past teachers and scholars.

One of the most important person who has a hand in shaping our lives after our parents is our teacher. Our teacher or Guru is the person who leads us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. Hence, they play a major role in shaping us the way we are. Guru Purnima is a day in Hindu calendar which is dedicated to our spiritual and academic teachers. In Hinduism, Guru or a teacher is equated with God. A true Guru is a link between the individual and the Supreme Power. That is why the Guru puja is performed in respect of the teacher on the day of Guru Purnima.

Guru Purnima is the day to thank your teacher for leading you to education and a better life.
So, take time on this Guru Purnima to thank your teacher for all that he/she has done for you.

Tradition in Indian Academics

Irrespective of their religions, Indian academics celebrate this day by thanking their teachers. Many schools, colleges and universities have events in which students thanks their teachers and remember past scholars. Alumni visit their teachers and present gifts as a gesture of gratitude !

Hindus attach paramount importance to spiritual gurus. Gurus are often equated with God and always regarded as a link between the individual and the Immortal. Just as the moon shines by reflecting the light of the sun, and glorifies it, all disciples can dazzle like the moon by gaining from their Gurus. On this day, all spiritual aspirants and devotees worship Vyasa in honor of his divine personage and all disciples perform a 'puja' of their respective spiritual preceptor or 'Gurudevs'!
