I just saw on tv that there are blasts in Delhi!!!!

New Delhi, Oct 29: Blasts rocked a bus and two busy market places in Delhi at a time when these places were bustling with people, who were shopping for the festive season. Over 40 people are feared dead more than 70 have been injured. A red alert has been sounded in the Capital. Helplines: 011-23404040, 011-23365525

The markets targetted are Sarojani Market and Paharganj. Another explosion has been reported in a bus in Okha Phase I. Another bomb was found in Chandini Chowk but was successfully defused.

The injured have been admitted in AIIMS, Ram Manohar Lohia and Lady Harding hospitals. All emergency staff has been called to duty. Police vans and ambulances have rushed to the blast sites.

The Paharaganj incident took place at the busy Nehru Market on Mandir Marg in at around 5.40 PM. The bomb took place in a bike parked in front of a medico shop in Cheh Tuti area, just outside the railway station. The explosive was 1.5 kg placed carry bag in tin box. The blast was so powerful that it resounded in an area upto half a kilometer. 5 shops have been completely destroyed and window-panes of adjoining houses have been shattered. There are fears that children may have borne the brunt of the blast.

The blast in Sarojani Nagar took place at 6:00 pm and was caused by about half a kilo of detonator. The marked was choc-a-bloc with people. There are reports that women have been the main casualties.

The blast in Okha Phase I took place on a DTC bus, which was on its way from Govindpuri. The blast took place around 6:10 pm. The driver and conductor are serious. Few other passengers have also sustained injuries.

In Chandni Chowk area also a bomb was found in a bank. It was defused by the police.

Barricades have come up across the city and search operations have simultaneously begun.

The blasts seem the handiwork of terrorists targeting the Capital during the festive season. IED may have been used for the blasts. There was prior information that terrorists may target the Capital during Diwali.

The police chief has asked people to be vigilant. He said unclaimed objects lying anywhere should not be touched and information about these should be passed on to the police immediately.

The public has also been asked to inform the police about any suspicious persons moving in their neighbourhood in the recent days or any other suspicious movement they might have seen.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Shivraj Patil has urged people to go to their homes and avoid panic to fear. He said that all the required measures have been taken to control the situation.
