Once upon a time in a land far away, lived Shubu. He was known far and wide for his intelligence, humor, integrity, courage, strength, love of dancing...and...and...yup...his "s** appeal"...😳

As he roamed the neighboring village one day, who should he spy but a lass who took his breath away...dancing away the day with her friends (Ritsie and Fizi)...yup...such names were common in those days too! 😳 😆

He heard the one called Ritsie call out to the girl who had stolen his heart as ...Basanti...ahhh...what a sweet sound it was to his ears indeed! 😍

Smitten...all Shubu could do from that day on was stalk his lady love while she spent her days in the enjoyment of the arts...😳 😆

Soon...Basanti too noticed her Shubu and all she could do, from that day on, was wait for him to come to see her everyday! ❤️

Then one day, Shubu's mother decided to find a bride for her eligible son. She came across the picture of one "Likarsh" on a website and thought the sweet and quiet sorts would be perfect for her darling son. 😲 😆

That night the whole kingdom heard the battle between mother and son. No way, said Shubu! My heart beats only for my Basanti he said! And before his mother could stop him, he rode in to the darkness towards the arms of the queen of his heart!

"Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark inn-yard,
And he tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred;
He whistled a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there
But the landlord's black-eyed daughter,
Basanti, the landlord's daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair."

The call of sweet love impossible to resist, Basanti eloped with Shubu that day to start a life in another land...far far away!

And to this day they live...Basanti & Shubu...in a state of marital bliss...for ever and ever and ever!

But that state of marital bliss would be short-lived. For try as she might, Basanti could not hide for long her love, lust and attraction for the Evil magistrate, who had been plotting and scheming to overtake the village and rule it in all his evil glory.

She could no longer deny herself, and so slowly but surely she started sneaking away night after night to meet up with this Evil magistrate and fulfill her carnal desires.

Errr... I'm lazy right now.

Long story short... Shubh finds out, runs into Likarsh and pours out his woes and troubles, neither realising that they had been deemed the perfect match for the other by their parents and marital matching websites.

With the burden off his shoulders, Shubh confronted Basanti, giving one last chance, asking her to remove the thoughts of the Evil magistrate from her heart forever. Alas, one look at her face, and he knew... that could never be.

And so Shubh packed up his things and left their abode (for he is too much of a gentleman to kick Basanti out). He went back and apologised to his mother for making such a terrible mistake.

Do not worry my son, said his mother. For at least now you will have no regrets. Let's go and see if that girl...Likarsh... is still available, and if she's still willing to be married to you.

And so, Shubh and his mother set out to see Likarsh...with gifts of myrrh, gold and so much more.

They reached her house to see a figure of a beautiful lass watering her garden. Shubh gathered up his wits and courage, and slowly starts to explain the reason for their visit. Likarsh, after hearing a bit, turned around, a bit annoyed. But then she saw his face... and all her irritation melted away.

She saw that beautiful face, and remembered his beautiful tears and pain... and her heart melted.

He too recognised her. And in his eyes flashed such heavy gratitude and gratefulness. And then he finally took in her beauty. And O, what beauty it was.

Errr... long story short...

They get married. Live happily Ever After.

^ And suddenly...Likarsh woke up to a bucket of water being thrown on her face by her mother. Shubu leaving Basanti...alas, it was all...nothing more than a dream. Just then, the neighborhood kabootar dropped the day's newspaper on her lap on what should the picture of the day be...Basanti & Shubu leaving on the Pushpak Vimana they had just purchased to take a long extended honeymoon in lands far far far far far away!

Basanti ❤️ Shubu!
