Leap lock
Twenty-year jumps are pass. KAMPT fast forwards to 40 years later
Alaka Sahani
IT was long overdue. Kkabhie Abhi Bhii Mere Paas Thaa (KAMPT) is finally taking a 40-year leap on the forthcoming auspicious Sankrant day. The daily soap (or should I say sob) couldn't delay it any further as Jeete Hain Jiske Liiye (no typos) has already taken a 20-year jump (generation leaps in TV parlance) and Kasautii Zindagi Kay is set to do so on April 30. It wasn't the fear of being labeled copycat but the dreadful report that Mamta's cast refused to age which made them hurry. "Protests like Mamta's can have disastrous effects on the TV industry and should be nipped in the bud. Otherwise we creative people will lose our foolproof magic formula for boosting TRPs," says creative director Navneeta Banerjee of Rajaji Telefilms, producer of KAMPT.
The production company also claims credit, not uncontested though, for making the leap formula so fashionable. But Balaji Telefilms contests its bragging, and rightfully so. After all, they have kept the storyline of longest-running Indian soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi interesting by taking two generation leaps in five years whereas Kasautii has done it twice. "But we are doing something very different by taking a two-generation leap—a first in the history of Indian television," argues Banerjee. The Rajaji camp is set for the jump. The biggest surprise (if at all) will be the return of Aasha's first love Solomon by popular demand. He was swept away in Mumbai's 26/7 deluge and lost his memory. Though the Rajaji camp is tightlipped about it, inside sources say he will bail Aasha out of trouble and help fight injustice. *****************************************deleted************ ***************

leaps don't neccassarily mean higher TRP's. mamta is already only appearing in the top 20 charts once in a while now.😕 if this leap that so many of us here don't like happens, i think mamta can wave tata to the top 20 chart.😡😡😡

i also agree but not everyone thinks like us, the directors and writers dont think what the viewers want they just do it, even if it means lower trps or higher ones 😡
