Also I find karna's confidence quite admirable when he was constantly being put down by all the people around him.. it can also be said that karna boast about himself because unlike arjun there is no one else to compliment him

Arjun has always been shown proud of his talent. When he finds Eklavya's talent with archery better than his, he works to prove himself. Lord Krishna than tells us about the Uttam and Sarvashreshth. I have just started reading the Mahabharat so I am unsure of what his character was originally like.
However, according to what I have heard from my grandparents and parents, Arjun was sinless. He had no evil in his heart, and was thus Lord Krishna's favorite man. In BhagwatGita, which I am glad to say I have read 😆, Lord Krishna tells him that without Arjun, he won't be able to live on this earth. So basically, Arjun doesn't have any badness in him.

Don't you remember what Duryodhan said after Bhim was disqualified? Arjun isn't extremely righteous who will live a fight because he got angry, and neither does he lose his calm to an extent where he won't know he is preparing his own demise.

Also, Kunti said that if he was really her son, he will answer this. (When Karn talk about Arjun's father.) So Arjun wasn't exactly over confident, he was answering the insult on behalf of his family. Karn is outraged due to all the insults and rejections he had to endure, which is acceptable. We can't forget that his blood is Kshatriya and rage, leadership, challenge and inability to accept wrong runs in his blood. In that era, he is the justice, but is unknown to that.

Anyways, we can't judge characters in Mahabharat completely. It's a psychological book that has all the answers, and reading too much into it can harm nerve cells. 😆

I am RK, by the way! New to the forum. Hello!

Nice post I also think he wasn't overconfident.Shakuni ,Durudhun humiliate him and his brothers from childhood even tried to kill Bheem and again when they came back still they conspired against them so they he had to tell them that they not helpless kids anymore but grown ups who can give them fitting reply now.
Rest you said it well.
