Unexpected failures of much anticipated shows in Indian TV of recent times
Indian TV has always been unpredictable and fickle. No shows come up with a certainty of grabbing the market ratings as planned for. There doesn't really exists something like superstar influence or production houses' sure shot monopolistic market working for a show's success like as in Bollywood. Audiences are the ultimate king for determining a show's success, the choices of viewers are ever so dynamic and not of foreseeable natured. Just Showbiz brings to you the list of such shows from recent times which despite being the highly anticipated ones failed unexpectedly on the screens.
Chhal- Sheh Aur Maat
Colors' network's much hyped show Chhal- Sheh Aur Maat was expected by the makers to change the Indian Television's trend of clichd Saas Bahu dramas but it itself redeemed to the boringly usual Saas Bahu and conspiracy thing soon after its initial 50 episodes; though the show was absolutely impactful in execution of suspense, mystery and thriller in those initial episodes. The reason of the genre alteration was the low TRPs as howsoever impactful the show's execution was audiences didn't showed any connect with the genre. Also, the show failed to do any good for its lead actors- Hunar Hali, Avinesh Rekhi and Abhisek Mallik commercially; nonetheless, their performances were critically appreciated.
Rab Se Sona Isshq
When Zee TV started on airing the promos of Rab Se Sona Isshq, anticipations were of something similar and as extravagant as Sanjay Leela Bhanshali's big screen blockbuster Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam to be zeroed into small screen. Unfortunately, upon release all of the expectations went drained down the hill. The show that juggled between low ratings to average neither could portray passion nor the love story could be impressive. The show was speculated to become major break through to Lead actors Karan Malhotra and Ekta Kaul, which never happened. Moreover, for Chandragupta Maurya aka Ashish Sharma and Pyar Ki Ek Kahani fame Sukirti Kandpal, the show added a flop in their otherwise smooth career
Jay Jag Janani Maa Durga
It was again another much talked upon Colors' show prior release. While Indian audiences openly welcome mythological plus historic shows, Jay Jag Janani Maa Durga failed to grab eyeball although being based on Maharshi Vyasha's epic tale of Mata Durga Bhawani. The show was pulled off air within three months of its on airing leaving behind the channel sour which had yet to recover from another such failure with the show Veer Shivaji.
Chhanchhan
Even before Sony TV's Chhanchhan actually went on floors, the show and its makers created a big hullabalo in the media. The claims of the show being next big thing in TV which will change the mindset of TV audiencens died down the throat after it started on screens. Chhanchhan settled with very low TRPs, meanwhile, it got jinxed in some or the other unfruitful negative controversy. Moreover, the show became a worst deal so far for TV's regeining diva Sanaya Irani, whereas in male leads neither Farhan Khan nor Anuj Sachadeva got hold of desired plight. Besides, veteran actress Supriya Pathak's performance also couldn't save the show from sinking, though she got appreciate wide for her performance.
Saraswatichandra
No one could have thought that mastereo director Sanjay Leela Bhanshali wouldn't be able to live up the expectations with his TV directorial debut. Still, the unexpected occured, due to unsatisfactory results Bhanshali quit the show amidst quite controversial deal. Saraswatichandra, a moderated hit whatsoever, differed a lot from what people expected out of the TV incarnation of the India's one of the most richest novel "Saraswatichandra". Anyway, the show made much intriguing start and also benefited its starcast- specially, it has become fortunate for lead actors Jennifer Winget and Gautam Rode.
Rangrasiya
Colors' seems the most beaten up channel in failing with high anticipatory ventures. The recent stint on its list is non other than Rangrasiya, the most hyped show on TV history but equally doomed sadly, due to low ratings. The show opened with tremendous buzz and praises all over was producer Saurabh Tiwari's bringing-down-Bollywood-into-small-screen dream. Nevertheless, the dream got scattred shortly after show's initial run. Blaming on TRPs, makers brought many changes in the script that doomed the show with lots of plot holes and loose ends. Fortunately, starcast of the show gained wide popularity- leads Sanaya Irani and Ashish Sharma were praised frenzily for their perfornances despite the show adding to their list of flops.
Yudh
It seems as if it is becoming tougher for Sony TV bounce back on success. The channel's most of the daily soaps are failure at the viewership ratings. Even then, it was shocking when legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan starrer and Bollywood's ace director Anurag Kashyap's directorial Yudh - a psychological thriller, found no connect with the audiences to be recorded as a pathetic failure at the television history. The series rather proved that not even Bollywood bigwigs are bigger to audiences flow in small screen. In spite of the bitter consequence, the series garnered high acclaim in performances enactment as well as at directorial spectrum.
Baawre
Another acclaimed Bollywoodbee, writer Neelesh Mishra of Ek Tha Tiger fame ventured in writing a television daily soap; the promos for Baawre looked captivating and every bit of refreshing. Nevertheless, taste of bitter failure didn't leave the Life Ok's ambitious project either. The show released with huge expectations couldn't make it up to the mark as audiences opted to ignore the show and leads' chemistry failed to match up the intensity of the script. Baawre have not been so fruitful to its lead actors- Abhisek Rawat and Vinita Joshi Thakkar. It is upsetting to go past so many failure turns- each of them speaking a story of wastage investment and talents. The case of anticipated shows failing bitterly have discouraged the show makers and hampered the television fraternity's growth in international font. We can't always blame TRPs system since viewers are free to opt what to watch and what not. If these highly planned shows are failing, then it is clear that there is something amiss in the connection between the makers and viewers. So the times' demand for TV show planners is to know their audiences or to scale their budget and content to their specific niche rather than spending large amount of money in over the top promotional strategies. We expect not any show to fail onwards.
Think logical, let's get bizzin!
