CVs are using supporting characters to highlight the actions of the leads through a societal point of view. In other words, they are indirectly telling the audience that they are aware of what is running in the minds of viewers. That itself shows there is something up.
As far as Madhu is concerned, I see her as trying to put the pieces of her life back together. She's not being desperate. She's just fighting to find meaning again. Though I don't fully agree with what she's doing, but I'm able to believe that she connected with Aryan because his innocence and naivety reminds her of her old self.
No I'm not defending Madhu or anyone here. But the way these scenes are played out makes me feel the creatives were well aware of what type of reactions they would expect from the audience, and thus they went along and showed that on screen as well.
