I had a late introduction to Madhubala...in fact in September much after their marriage etc. One episode and I was totally hooked. I read an old interview of one of the writers of the show who says, that they take a situation, visualize how a typical soap heroine reacts and turn it around and make the reactions different.

Today's episode was so enjoyable because of the obvious, RK's BBB of Dips in front of MB.

I also registered the reactions of Madhubala today and want to do a quick comparison between Madhu and TSH (typical). What experience do I have...years of watching soap dramas, K Ones or otherwise.

Situation No 1: MB realises her reaction to RK's almost death was visceral, more gut wrenching than warranted, given the fact that he has tortured her and her family so much.

Typical reaction: Teary eyed realisation of love, secretly loving the hero, noone knows, the track will move slowly till both of them get drunk at a party and consumate the marriage.

Madhu's reaction: Realisation, confusion, guilt, confession to her mom who she is very close to. She tries to sort out her feelings, and accept them all within two episodes. Record time. She is true to herself and to her relationships.

Situation No 2: RK 's BBB of Dips

Typical reaction: Tears, nahin, please don't insult your bhabahi, parivaar ke khatir, please let her go, despite the fact that the villainess has been humiliating her throughout. Supreme sacrifice, supreme goodness, that is your typical heroine.

Madhu's reaction: First reaction when she realises RK is bajoing Dips, she almost rolls her eyes, you can imagine her thinking...gosh, here we go RK, he's at it again!! Second reaction, she looks away and then glares at Dips with an 'I stand vindicated, you silly woman' look in her eyes.

Situation No 3: RK's question...why?

Typical reaction: Coy look, blush. blush, silence, or loving tears streaming down.

Madhu's reaction: Straighforward and the absolute truth..you would do the same for me. In fact, RK is thrown off balance by her candid answer.

Yes, the drama may be OTT, but it is a daily soap, we need the OTT or we would all get bored. But somewhere, there are nuances which is realistic.

The perfect foil to MB is RK, don't think I have ever seen such a multilayered personality in TV. He's black, grey and white, difficult to catch him out. An analysis is required, another day maybe😊

And that's why I am hooked and that's why I have made such a long post though I'm a new member (I used to be a lurker).
