RK lost his dad at young age. he had the best memories with his father. and then he himself saw how his father died. on top of that his mother married for whatever reason and RK felt betrayed. And of course RK felt betrayed by his mother and did not except his stepfather and stepbrother. He did not grow up in a loving environment.

Madhu on the other hand had no knowledge of her biological father. She knew she was blessed with a loving mother, a sister and aunt and Malik as a father. She was nourished with love.
