Avani struggles to make ends meet

In STAR Plus' Maayke Ke Se Bandhi… Dor, Avani and Bhaskar have been running the house in these times of inflation and now they have additional members in the house.

Bhaskar's sister Anju and her husband Prabhu have camped in Bhaskar's house. With a tight budget and long list of expenses, Avani has been struggling to make ends meet. Amidst this tension, she will get a great surprise from Bhaskar.

A STAR Plus.in source reveals, "When Prabhu lost his job, Bhaskar invited him to stay over at his place with his wife Anju till he found a new job, as he wanted to help out his brother-in-law. But Prabhu realised that he could relax in Bhaskar's house and didn't make any effort to find a new job. He is enjoying taking advantage of his brother-in-law who is worried for him. As he can't ask for money outright, Prabhu even stole some cash which Avani had kept for gas. In tonight's episode, Bhaskar will get a bonus and he will surprise Avani with a gift."

Avani is under a lot of pressure and says, "With aai, baba, Bhaskar and me, we were hardly managing the house and now Neeta too is at home as her in-laws aren't accepting her post the blast. Her medical expenses and well being is our responsibility. Now with Anju and Prabhu living in the house, it has become really tough. We are stretching every paisa. I understand Bhaskar's reason for asking them to stay with us but I don't see Prabhu trying to find a job at all. With these added responsibilities, it seems we are burning the candles at both ends. The budget of the house has gone awry. I am trying to buy vegetables in bulk, so that I get them at a lower price, I am also trying to work overtime to get more money but I have to be back at home to cook, so I am unable to do enough overtime to earn a substantial amount."

When the money went missing, Avani was frantic. "I was shocked and angry that I misplaced the money. I have no inkling what happened to the money as I couldn't trace it. I think I must have kept it somewhere in a hurry and have forgotten about it. Due to this, I had to break the piggybank to pay for gas," she explains.

They say Atithi devo bhava but does Avani feel Prabhu and Anju have they overstayed their welcome? "Well Bhaskar had offered them stay in our house till Prabhu finds a job. I hope it happens soon as it will be better for all of us. I am sure even Prabhu and Anju would want to get a house of their own and make a future with a new job," hopes Avani.

With Abha getting married and additional members at home, how much is Avani able to contribute to her aai's home expense? "Not as much as I would want to. Thankfully, Abha earns now so I can do with giving less money to aai but as I had told Bhaskar before marriage that I will give my mother my salary & that is not an issue anymore. But I do contribute in my own home as well as our expenses have increased with inflation and these two new members. I feel I am unable to give enough to both houses as both need extra money at this point in time. I paid my younger sister Aditi's fees but haven't given much for my sister Abha's wedding fund."

So how is she managing the money? "With a lot of difficulty and calculation. We are middle class people and our expenses are limited. We are using all resources and putting all our eggs in one basket. There is no saving of any kind."

But when Bhaskar surprised her with a chain, Avani was thrilled. "Yes I was very happy to receive such a wonderful gift from my husband. But can you believe the first thought I had was, - why did he get a chain when we needed extra money right now? Bhaskar explained that the chain could be our savings, for our future as well as a gift he wanted to give me. And he didn't dip into his salary but got it from his bonus so it will not affect our budget. How can I say no to such a thoughtful gesture!!" smilesAvani.
