LRL the march is on |
If Shah Rukh Khan could break the walls of gurukul to lure all his students to the outside world, so does Rajeev Khandelwal with LRL, SAB's latest show that reminds one of the fauji days. Deebashree Mohanty reports |
Take a little bit of Mohabbatien, a slice of Main Hoon Na and crumbs from Rang De Basanti. Mix them in the blender and in marches Left Right Left. After setting up a beauty parlour, the celebrated Tony and Deeya Singh duo, better known in the TV fraternity as the DJ network, are back with Left Right Left -- a new show that is a cross between countless Bollywood flicks, yet completely non-filmy. |
LRL, as the producers are hell bent on calling this one, promises to be a youthful serial for all age groups. "LRL is about six young characters and their confused state of mind when they join a military academy. They are young and rebellious yet they don't know where to head in life, hence the tittle Left Right Left?," says Deeya Singh, the producer of the show. What's most interesting is that LRL was decided over a cup of coffee at Barista! |
Programming head Priya explains. "I had been living with this concept for four years. The story is my biography. But I had never thought I could ever transform this into reality. When Deeya and I met for coffee, she accepted the story and since then there has been no looking back for all of us." Thankfully, there was no LRL on that decision. |
So what's special about the concept? Six characters, all diverse, are undecided about their future and confusion culminates in Kanchenjunga, a military academy. From thereon just about everything changes. "There is Naina, a confident girl looking for answers relating to her brother's untimely death in the Army. There is Yudi, very much the Salman Khan types who likes to live life on the edge. There is his stark opposite in Ali who is more a serious kind and then there is Pooja, the girl next door. There is also Huda, the spoilt brat, and Alekh who enjoys every bit of life. They are the crux of the serial," adds Tony Singh. |
Did we mention that the serial also stars Rajeev Khandelwal as Captain Rajveer and the sexy Shveta Salve as a psychologist? "We are there in the show to give it the extra spice. I play the mentor of all these kids who have come to the academy. They bank on me for some mature advice and I learn many things from them too," says Khandelwal who portrays this character who is nervous around women. |
As for his leading lady in the serial, she holds the all-important part of the serial. |
"I am, in some way, the most important person in the serial because I hold a breathtaking suspense which changes the course of the entire serial," says Salve, confidant about playing a doctor to the tee. Where is Sab's latest venture headed - Left, Right or Left? Only time can tell. |
