Babi & Naku talk
The mother daughter dialogue continues.. Naku weeps and admits before her mother , that she does smart and her heart breaks into a million pieces when she sees Supriya Tai's happiness showing on her face, the wedding arrangements underway! you can't imagine what shatters inside me Aye! Naku sobs, you ask my heart Aye..in those two days I'll weep every single instant! really.. but I will continue to smile! She wipes her tears from her face...I won't let anyone know Aye ..tomorrow my dreams will belong to another... but till then! let my dreams live Aye ! let them fly! she pleads before her mother. ..let my dreams fly Aye!! she urges her mother, as she stands up on her feet, let my dreams fly! and she spins with her mother , making her Aye part of her joy..it's as if Naku latches on to her mother's support in this moment of her personal heart break.. like a child at play , she chivvies her mother along and compels her to partake in this one off moment of joy.. Naku becomes an exuberant , impetuous child once again, innocent, shedding off all her inhibitions!
Naku drags her mother from the out house through the main corridor of the house till she gets to the private open air patch of green, that holds the swing and the built in pond.. Babi complains of losing her breathe, have you gone mad !where are you taking me! Naku cannot contain the excitement of her racing heart and she continues to spin her mother around in this one moment of life where she would adamantly grab her bit of happiness. stop! someone can see us! Babi brings her to a halt.. but Naku replies dreamily as if in a trance, tonight just let me dream.. I know you are afraid about my real face... but tonight let me be myself!!.. no one can see me Aye! no one! she assures her mother and giggles.. Babi does as a mother would do and tenderly gives in to her daughter's outlandish suggestion of living her dream..
Naku catches on to her mother's support and races her mother along the corridor of the house in the middle of the night.. when all are meant to have retired for rest in their rooms.. it is a gusty night they race.. leaving the blowing curtains clothed in the blue hazy of the soft night lights..
Gaily Naku brings her mother to the green patch within the house and stands near the pond looking at her reflection dressed in her white anarkali...gently she lowers herself down on the edge of the pond,sits and lowers her fingertips in the still pond to reach out for a tiny tea light and rests it on the palm of one hand and shields it's flickering glow with the curved palm of her other palm.. this is like what her words about his love being like a flickering light .. and that she would see to it that the sentiments of love kindled in him, continue in him for she would keep the light from blowing out.. is illustrated.. Babi looks at her daughter lovingly, as Naku brings the tea light flame closer and smiles at it.. then gently lowers it back into the water to float.. her fingertips teases the water and the floating lotus ornaments carrying the tea lights glide gently. Naku confirms to her mother, there is no one here who will look at me.. but suddenly , Babi shifts her eyes anyway ..and looks around precariously.
Naku looks at her mother with a childlike face and asks innocently, Aye, look at the moon up there.. it's so beautiful.. she laughs and stands up , and says to her mother, now if I fuss and say to you get me the moon! can you give it to me?..you can't can you? he can never be mine.. but I can still love him can't I ? I can look at him from far?.. this then is a beautiful scene where Naku compares Dutta to the moon, a heavenly object which normal humans can only see from a tremendous distance.. but the moon is constant for it does show up, does it's function, completes it's cycle and does contribute to the functions of the natural process of day and night.. yet we can only watch it from far.. the moon has always evoked a lot of interest in the world of emotions, sensitivity and love.. it's distant, mysterious ..presence has inspired writers to use it as a symbol of a beloved ..where the loved one is compared to it..
Here Dutta for Naku is mysterious, fascinating, but most of all unattainable like the moon.. but yet something to be desired for..
Babi listens to her daughter's brave , but sincere woes of the heart. Naku walks over and sits on the swing, looks up at the moon. Her lovely black tresses blow in the breeze, and swept in her sentiments for her Saab, she continues.. if I stand here in the open, then who can stop me from bathing in the moon light? the moon belongs to the glow of the moonlight.. but the moon light will fall upon me as well.. Aye this is how my love is like.. my moon is Dutta Sahib ..
Ohhh... with her words out comes a morose Dutta , his head held low, walking slowly from his room onto his balcony study area.. his tall lean figure is seen in the elusive shadows of the moonlit night.. with both hands pocketed he strolls on to the balcony, the breeze plays gently with his hair .. he is deep in thought.. and slowly he looks and paces from one end to the other, near the railing of his balcony, like a sentinel on guard looking for the slightest movement, focused and alert in a relaxed sort of way,.. he stops in the middle of the balcony and looks into space, as the gusts of wind toss the sea waves that stir and crash in his heart.. somewhere Dutta hears a familiar tune played on the harmonica..
He looks ahead and narrows his eyes as he recalls FB , how Supriya stops him from leaving on the terrace..her words , from today I wish to start a new life with you.. will you give me another chance?.. Dutta turns his face on the balcony and recalls how she served karanji to him.. with a firm mouth Dutta looks ahead and ponders.. as her image of begging for his forgiveness comes to his mind yet again.. Naku seems to be achieving her goal.. that Dutta gives life another chance.. well, all these flash back images of Supriya suggests that all is not lost with Dutta Bhau.. there is the old Dutta still within him.. somewhere..Naku just has to tease him out..
Standing in the balcony, with the gusts teasing his clothes , his hair, his face , he almost smiles and turns his face aside..
Naku looks up at the moon in the firmament ..and continues , see Aye the light of my love is every where! and ecstatic she spins her mother in a twirl and Babi freezes as she looks up in horror! at the serene statute like figure of Dutta Bhau looking across from his balcony !his eyes move up slightly and he smiles.. as Babi's face twists in terror...
Dutta recalls Supriya standing before him singing her song for him... and he turns his face aside slowly..with a pensive smile..
Babi looks at her daughter's face in shock and grabs Naku by the hand and races with her, away from Dutta and the balcony's view...in panic she blurts to Naku, Dutta bhau has come! he will see you Naku! come!.. and she covers Naku's head protectively with her sari's pallu..it seems here that Babi's raw nerve has been touched again, she has the same fear, the same panic in her manner, like she had when she used to shield Naku 's face from Morey! ..and the world. Here begins the tale of Naku's future life with Dutta... for Dutta is not Morey .. Dutta will love Naku, not lust for her like Morey. Hence Dutta will take a hell of a lot longer to heal and forgive Naku after he sees her real face.. he will see it..as the final straw which kills him.. for with Naku Dutta is guilty of loving her.. and to him ,the fair Naku kills the Koel Naku he fell for... ohhh Dutta why did all this happen to you??
Naku shrugs off Babi's protective pallu , let it be Aye! he won't recognize me..how would he know that behind the dusky face is this beautiful face..Naku challenges her mother..
Dutta looks down from the balcony , his hands in his pocket.. Babi caresses Naku's face , no my child this cannot happen!..she covers Naku's face, hides it from one side and puts her arm around Naku's shoulders and takes her away, inside the house retracing their steps back to where they came from..and leaving Babi looks up at Dutta who is lost in thoughts.. oblivious to all .. Dutta who looks down and then turns his back to the view down below...his right hand perched on his desk chair.. and left in his trouser pocket .. the harmonica plays on mingled with the gusts of the wind.. gradually he pockets his right hand too and lazily strolls back to his room..

Guest room
Supriya sits before the mirror dolling her self up... she smiles at her reflection..Kala approaches and glares at her from the door.. Supriya stops, making herself up and smiles at Kala in the refelection. Kala smiles, with a slant to her head[like Dutta ..] and says , vahini, why are you preening your self so much? what is your plan? she comes and stands behind her ,feels her shoulders and says, come let's go.. you have been called downstairs.. they want the size of your noose.. she sneers as she closes her palms around a stunned Supriya's neck.. Supriya shaken says, Tai what are you saying? Kala turns her face towards the side of Supriya's face.. what am I saying? ok you tell me.. isn't getting married to Bhau ..no less than a death sentence? Supriya stands and faces Kala .. and mumbles , I don't get what you mean? Kala bemused says, hey why are you getting scared.. you are very naive! I was just kidding! marriage is like a death penalty! you are just fretting for nothing..with a smile she says , I came here to tell you that Aye Sahib has beckoned you down stairs to select your mangalsutra..will you come? and Supriya smiles and says yes.. and Kala says, come then.. takes her by the arm and takes her out of the door .. where Ravi stands on guard.. Kala pauses and looks at each of their faces, and then slyly she asks Ravi, how beautiful my vahini looks.. he looks up at Kala silently.. and Kala challenges him.. look I am taking her with me right before your eyes! won't you stop me ? you are a body guard , so just follow... she gibes at him, and walks Supriya past him! I loved this bit, Kala had such a fighting spirit about her that I almost thought she has to be on Dutta's side!

Mangalsutra
Big guns don't go shopping.. the traders come to them to sell their goods in the comfort of their homes..
The whole family including our Koel Naku watch in awe at the grand displays, of the scared thread.. all manner of designs and materials are used. Aye Sahib , Leela, and Roops are impressed by the variety. Kala comes with Supriya and her body guard in tow.. and all smile especially Naku.. there is examining and selection happening.. Aye invites them to sit and Leela shows Kala a selected ornament.. but Kala rejects it.. she remarks, the thing is Leela, our vahini is exceptionally beautiful .. so this noose will compliment her neck! and Kala holds a heavy solid one against Supriya's neck and Supriya 's mother beams and Naku smiles.. but Leela picks another modern pattern, and Roops yet another! for herself! All smile at Roops 's childish ways. Aye sahib says with a smile, Roops you are so impatient, at least wait! let me find a decent groom for you.. she turns to Supriya's mother you too select something for your daughter. She does, a solid gold one and says, I like this one it's heavy ! how much does it weigh ? she asks the goldsmith... showing up her simple background.. the goldsmith remains silent, he was very never asked that sort of question here before.. Naku though smiles at Supriya 's mother's slip.
Supriya choses one and looks at it closely.. she turns her eyes towards Ravi for his approval. He looks miffed. Kala clocks onto their actions.. and catches Supriya deliberately drop her choice on the floor..it lands near her feet and she bends to pick it up and cranks her neck to seek his opinion.. and he smiles and nods his head approvingly... Kala gives Ravi a sided glare! [greattt! Go Dutta! kill him Kala !] Kala watches a bent and smiling Supriya in disgust!.. slowly Supriya with a coquettish smile sits up as she holds the mangalsutra in her palm.. and Kala says looking at Ravi , if the person who puts it on and the person who has to wear it agree on the choice ..then no one else needs to be consulted, isn't that so Supriya ? says Kala sarcastically .. and Supriya smiles .. but Naku seems anxious after hearing Kala 's words..[ she reckons the one to put it on Supriya is Saab and he's not here...] she blinks her eyes and leaves.. towards Dutta 's den!

Dutta's den
Dutta's sits on his turquoise settee , one arm stretched on the back of the settee the other holding a gun.. the door to his den is ajar, and a meeting is underway. Baji is having stiff words with a man regarding payment of Bhau 's dues.. the man says that Rati seth ,the man in question has gone to visit his in laws.. and Baji yells ,Bhau will get his money from that guy!even if he goes to hell! Bhau will grab his neck tell your friend that! Baji yells. Dutta gives him a glare and at gun point commands the seated man to stand up! Baji yells, get up! and get lost! Dutta points his gun at the man, slants his head , glares and says in a baritone voice , tell your seth ! that in this place it he wants to do business ! then without paying Bhau he cannot carry on! the frightened man says ok Bhau.
Naku peeps from behind the door and is shocked to see Dutta pointing his gun.. but gingerly Naku just decides to enter the room.. and Dutta moves his outstretched gun held arm from the man towards.. this movement near the door... at Naku! who nearly jumps out of her skin! Baji looks at her all serious faced, Dutta growls at her, you! in my room at his time! you want to be shot!.. she lowers her eyes down and nods her head in panic.. and Baji yells you crazy girl! get lost! but Naku replies calmly, I have some work with Saab ..it's important.. Dutta lowers his gun down and replies firmly, what's happening here is also important .. just go from here! he insists but she stands and stares and Baji , suggests, Bhau she won't leave till you don't hear her out! I'll deal with this guy!
Dutta looks across at her and says, what is it? and Naku nods her head and whispers, come here Saab.. not in front of others... irritated Dutta goes towards her and says , what do you want ? tell me! Naku looks at him and says, come downstairs Saab .. Dutta looks at her in disbelief ! with a roll of eyes... what is so important? Naku says, it's important, I'll tell you.. Baji yells hey! you tell me I'll take care of it! Naku looks at Baji and puts him in place, it's doesn't concern you, it's only for Bhau! shall we go Saab!? and Baji yells Bhau , this girl is a crazy retard! Dutta asks her, till I don't come with you, you won't move from here will you?..she nods and Dutta turns his neck and orders Baji , till he doesn't give you the address of that Rati seth don't let him leave! and he throws his gun towards Baji.
He turns to Naku who smiles and says, lets go, and Dutta moves his head like an obedient student.. following his teacher.

Mangalsutra
Aye sahib asks Supriya , tell us which one you have selected .. she smiles as she looks at Ravi..
In walks Naku all smiles with Dutta besides her.. Kala is surprised and Ravi gives Dutta nearly a glare.. and squares his shoulders up..[ I so want Dutta to give him the beats on his pumped up body] Dutta approaches the predominantly ladies gathering, Naku in tow.. the goldsmith greets him, his Aye smiles at him so does Roops.. but Supriya's face clouds as she takes a deep breath and lowers her eyes..then suddenly turns to look at her lover Ravi .. and Kala watches her amused.. and taunts, Bhau! what are you doing here? looks like you are missing vahini! and every one smiles.. Dutta not amused looks down at Naku by his side..and mutters, is this what you brought me downstairs for? Naku nods her head.. Aye suggests, Dutta my son, since you are here, you might as well say which mangalsutra will look the best on your wife.. Supriya looks up at him and Ravi turns his face aside in a huff.. but lowers his eyes quickly. All wait and Dutta says , Aye I don't know ..what can I say about this.. Naku is the one who dragged me here..what ever you select I'll put on Supriya .. but Kala argues, but Bhau! you are supposed to tie the mangalsutra, then why don't you choose one , she insists... Overcome with sentiments he replies what's in a mangalsutra, it's just a thread beaded with black beads or pearls and diamonds.. what does it matter? what matters is the feelings related to it, that is the real significance.. feelings of the heart that should be pure, there should be the wish to be bonded in a relationship, otherwise this thread is just another piece of jewellery.. Supriya closes her eyes and gives a sly smile, rolls her eyes and makes a mockery of Dutta's wise words.. while Naku gives him a proud look.. Aye reminds Supriya, now you consider your feelings and select the scared thread..and Supriya smiles and looks towards Ravi.. and Dutta stands over all with Naku by his side , his arms folded across his chest , and says, I will take your leave now, turns and brushes past Naku giving her a look. and he leaves.
Aye sahib says proudly , what Dutta has said makes sense. Ravi has look of sarcasm across his face.. tongue in cheek.. and Kala gives Supriya a sided look as Supriya raises her choice up once again in her palm to seek Ravi's one last approval.. which he gives with a smile and a double nod. Supriya smiles shyly . Kala turns her head and looks towards Ravi's crafty smile. Kala then turns to look at Supriya .. the episode ends .. Hamlet 53. 20.11.13

Precap:Ravi says to Supriya have you ever thought how an ordinary man like me has been brought into Dutta 's mansion as your body guard..? someone has brought me here...
Superb episode.. about unselfish, pure, innocent love.. an adoration from far, a distant covertness that humans have..
We have Dutta a man of iron, coming out with poignant words about the significance of a marriage symbol.. the mangalsutra.. is Naku's friendship steering him slowly towards understanding the purity in relationships, in emotions?
The balcony scene has to be for me, a romantically tragic scene, the setting is dreamy, a moonlit night , breezy and idealistic.. both the male protagonist along with the female are present in the scene.. but she pines for him.. but he although seeing her.. is lost in thoughts of another who he is not so sure of.. but he is willing to take a chance .. for someone has given him a new hope about moving on.. that someone, is she the dusky maid who dreams of the moon..? or is she this girl who is arranged for him to be his wife?.. Dutta has to find out...
