.:: A Truth to Create a Distance. A Distance to Bring us Together ::.
***FR to Reunion***
As we all know, the character of Dutta is quite complex. He comes across as a tough, hardcore man from his apparent ways but what one may miss is the fragile heart he holds. The heart that he worked to keep safely hidden away and learned to protect in shell. A shell that eventually broke because of Nakusha's love and I would say it happened unknowingly from the very beginning. Started with tiny cracks and eventually it broke off and free, opening to her love.
Dutta had finally, after going through a whole lot of emotional turmoil , come to terms with the love he held for Naku and what it meant to be in love, what his life was and became.. *(as discussed by Ani & Rose...and there is still more to come, I believe two phases before this one). And just when everything seemed to be settling to his liking, desires, and wishes that's where twists play a role...another phase...testing time for our DSP dearest.
so it came down to a lie to soothe versus a truth that hurts...
When the truth behind Nakusha's color came out it was clear how much of a shocker it was for Dutta. He hadn't expected it, especially not on their wedding night. He poured his heart out to his wife...his love and in hopes of finally feeling like things made sense in his life, there was color, it was alive again almost as if in a dream. Well he sure got one hell of a wake-up call for feeling all that.
Right after he told her how he felt for her, how much he came to trust her, how much he was affected by her, and how much his life changed (in a good way) because of her the truth struck like a dagger to his heart. Falling right out of his precious dream and hitting the ground hard, reality sank in. The truth that the person he loves is a lie (well it's just her color that was a lie but in his perspective that's not how it would've appeared). Everything came crashing down once again for him. And to mask the truth that hurt him he chose to take a route of telling himself lies about how he feels about her and telling everyone those same lies..and showing his disinterest in her to soothe the pain.
The lie that Nakusha lived was a lie that was kept up to soothe the effects of the struggles in her life. A form of protection for her to avoid danger and a form of masking to protect other's from hurting (ie. her mother and later a Dutta who believed all pretty faces were betrayers). For Dutta, more than the truth of her color it was the betrayal of his trust and love that really stabbed him. He went from denial to grief and pain all in a matter of a few moments. The love that he promised to hang on to was a love that to him was all a lie. Although I think somewhere deep in him he could sense that the Naku he loved was inside this new appearance, he didn't want to accept it in fear of it bringing him back down again.
His shock over the truth being hidden not only from Naku but his family, the notion of his Naku not even being existent, and then the realization that the trust he had was completely shattered left him again back at his emotional turmoil stage.
One show of a fair maidens hand and his world went tumbling to the ground. Eventually he decided his Naku no longer existed and the name Nakusha was now associated with the word betrayal, he refused to get hurt again, after the first two woman in his life were disasters he had really truly believed Naku was different and then the idea of her being no different to the others wouldn't let him accept her again (right away that is :P), he wanted to lend a deaf ear and blind eye to what was the truth just to avoid hurt again...
He shunned her out with a lie that he hated her, he doesn't care for her, and that she can do whatever she wants it won't bother him no more but in reality every little thing she did affected him something his mind denied but heart knew very well.
He did care and that was most apparent when he wasn't in his senses, when his mind shut down and his heart alone took over. He did love her but he chose to say he didn't, he chose to create a distance that only ended up bringing them closer allowing him to see that no matter how indifferent he was to her new look, presence, and behaviors he knew it all still got to him and that she was no different at all from the inside, and she was indeed different from the 'others'.
Of course eventually he began slowly letting down his guard...I guess he started to follow his hearts call instead. He slowly began to show her he did care even if he preferred to mask the idea. Through his stubborn front he still had his moments that told everyone his hearts truth. His tough love attitude was still prevalent throughout the time he began mellowing down but he was beginning to step towards her again and not away. Scenes such as...Naku getting shot and his automatic responses to it, similarly the Suresh segment that lead him to eventually say Naku is his wife to make his point, then the Naku driving and the coat wala scene, and many more that showed his little gestures as being great forms of communication between the two, especially in conveying the truth. It was obvious what he felt no matter how much he denied it and eventually he gave into also...letting go of his stubbornness slowly. And just when we thought he'll finally let all of his anger go and understand the woman's reasons, even if he didn't agree with her approach, fate I guess had other plans. Uh actually no, Kala had other plans...she set him up for his death. An accident that separated the two before they even got confront where there relationship was now...
Then the whole blind segment only helped Dutta realize his love on a deeper level and the separation made their love stronger and their desperation for each other greater. The distance making him realize that he was being a fool to have distanced something that he always knew was there between them. Even amongst all the lies the one thing that was always true from the beginning was her unconditional love for him and his love for her (even if he realized that's what it was, later but that came as part of the description of being a gadha :P). I think he always felt something for her from the beginning...unknown feeling to a very known one eventually.
I must add, the moments they shared apart, talking over the phone and the amount of pain and desire they held and built up from the FR only made their reunion all the more better. It was a moment for everyone to yell out FINALLY!!
Her desperate run into his waiting arms and a longing for her that needed to be done with. And there you have it the hug that said it all, a moment of being completed where the world didn't matter and neither did any current problems. It was only about the two of them. His expressions alone (now this can be talked about and praised forever so I won't start lol) were good in conveying that sense of relief of having her with him. His strength, his love, his everything was there and he'd fight the world to keep it that way...which is exactly what he ended up doing just he was blind..Love makes one do unexplainable things doesn't it :P
I felt this phase of Dutta's character development was important in terms of letting go of his protective stance around his heart. Learning to open up to the true and unconditional love Nakusha was offering, learning to let go of the mistake she made in hiding the biggest truth from him, learning to work with his heart instead of against it, and learning to let go of his past experiences...
Alright that's it from me 😳
