Dutta still couldn't believe it. She had driven the jeep, without knowing how to. He looked at the woman, flabbergasted. Baji was trying to explain that he'd tried to stop her. And that they hadn't been able to stop themselves because they were worried about him. He looked away, angrily. Why were they doing this? He'd been happy enough, having no one to worry about him. His family did worry, but they somehow knew that he'd be alright. No one worried about him like she did. They didn't come running when they felt that he'd be hit by a bullet or attacked by enemies. It hit him in full force, that he was with the only people who loved him enough to lay down their lives for him. Two people who weren't part of his family and yet were connected to him. One to his heart, and the other who owned him...heart and soul. How could he have been so blind to such love?
Naku realized Dutta wasn't going anywhere with them. So be it. She was his wife, and was as stubborn as him. Two could play at this game. Baji walked back to the jeep with a smile on his face. Everything would be alright now.
Naku sat in front of the fire, and gazed into his eyes. He met her gaze and as their eyes met, they lost all sense of time or being. No one dared to look into his eyes, the way she did. No one defied him, the way she did. And then, no one had ever loved him the way she did.
Baji decided he needed some air. He walked towards the mill, humming a tune to himself. Bhau was one lucky guy, he thought. To be loved so selflessly, it was truly something.
Dutta watched the embers burn bright, but it was her gaze that was scorching him so. He got up, and walked around the fire, towards her. He held out his hand, and she took it, without breaking their eyelock. She stood up, and he held her face between his hands. And then bent towards her. Accepted his defeat with a kiss. As his lips found hers, she came alive. He held her close, making it impossible for her to break away. Then he gazed at her again and wondered how he'd ever found her. No, she was the one who had found him. Pulled him out of the darkness that had surrounded him. He kissed her eyes, and her cheeks. Placed little butterfly kisses on her ears and the corner of her lips. "Naku, you were created out of all my lonely dreams. I see me in you. You are all the love and laughter and joy i've bottled up. I see my future clearer than ever. My child will wake up, open its eyes to your laughter, Naku. You are my destiny."
Dutta opened his eyes, and found that Naku was stirring the fire. He sighed, realizing that he'd never be able to tell her what he felt. He jumped up and walked towards her, held his hand out for the key. She placed it in his palm. He turned around, then stopped. Held his hand out to her. She stood up and started walking towards the jeep. He took off his jacket and covered her with it. She just got in and sat silently.
Baji heard the horn, and rushed towards the jeep. He just about managed to get in. He looked at the pair and realized that things hadn't still been resolved.
Dutta drove on, oblivious to everything but the woman beside him. Once he reached home, there was no way he'd get to even see her.
Baji was thrown out of his seat as the jeep stopped all of a sudden. Dutta was trying to switch the engine on, unsuccessfully. Dutta got out, and told Baji "See if you can get some help." Baji looked around, hoping he could find someone soon. Dutta looked at Baji walk away, and then looked back at his wife. He walked in the opposite direction, knowing that she'd follow him. If only she knew what he was doing to be near her...
