Hey guys!

*peers around*

So you all remember that 100 Seasons Contest we had a couple of weeks ago?!

*waits as everyone thinks*

Yes, yes! That one!

Well, we got some fabulous entries in and now it's time to vote for them!

I have tried a different "system" to vote in this thread - so please bear with me as I explain how this works. Normally you'd be asked to give the "number" of each entry as you post your votes. But lets face it - that took a lot of time and people just lost interest. So to make it interesting and more time-efficient (for both you and myself!) I come up with this new system.

Basically, all I need you to do is go through this thread and hit the "Like" button for the entry (or entries) that you want to vote for. It's as simple as that! Just look and click! You DO NOT need to post your votes in this thread - it is time consuming for you to write them down and definitely time consuming for me to tally them. This will be quicker! Although if you have any questions about this system, feel free to PM me! 😳

Now there is a draw back to this and that is, once you hit the "Like" button you cannot edit your vote! So PLEASE look through the ENTIRE thread first and then vote! However, if you do end up voting for an entry accidentally and you feel that you don't want your vote there, please PM me with the title of the entry e.g. Signature Entry # 11. I'll remember not to count your vote when I tally them!

Number of votes per section (i.e. how many entries you can vote for per section):

Signature Entries: 4 votes
One Shot Entries: 1 vote
VM Entries: 1 vote

Also, members that have turned in entries for this contest CANNOT vote for themselves!! Just to make that clear... 😆😆😆

The voting is open for a week (I am hoping that is enough time) so look through the thread and start voting! 😃

Voting Ends:
June 20th 2010

P.S. I'll post the winners of the Trivia with the Results of these votes in the next thread!

One Shot Entry # 1

A nervous chuckle escapes my throat as I reach the door that has been closed for so many days now. What did I expect? The end of the world? An invisible force throwing me back? I'm the first person coming up here voluntary. The servants do it because they have no choice. Someone has to bring up the food, replace the hardly touched tray on the new desk.
One last step and I'm ready to knock. Neil Armstrong of the house. One small step for a man, one giant leap for the family. But my hand stops midway, the fist hovering shaky in the air. I don't fear the man, I fear what I might find behind this door. Suddenly it swings open and I'm greeted by an angry "what ?" . I'm glued to the floor and I keep staring at my brother in law. His face softens as he sees me.
"What is it?" he asks before he blocks my view into the room by stepping out and closing the door.
Finally I'm able to move again. My hand comes down slowly and I try to smile. He looks exhausted with these deep black circles under his bloodshot eyes.
"Kishore," he calls me, trying not to loose his patience.
"I was wondering … well," I say. "Why don't you come down and have breakfast with us?" Not what I had planned to say, but a start. "Your mother is worried," I swallow hard. "And her mother is worried too."
I can't say her name. Guilt hangs above my head like the sword of Damocles. A little word- the mere thought of her name- could be enough to make it fall.
"Why?"
"They're mothers. They care." I almost start laughing thinking about my wife. A mother, but not quite the caring type.
I follow his fascinated gaze. He is studying his right hand, tracing some dried blood on his knuckles with his finger as if it is something he has never seen before. My heart seizes up. What if I'm too late? He senses my fear and looks up at me.
"We're fine."
"What …"
"She'll break down," he interrupts me, "She can't keep on lying forever."
I'm taken aback by the darkness in his eyes. I've seen it before. In my village when I was a boy. There was this man, I don't even know his name. He had lost his sanity along with his wife and daughters in a fire, they said. Day and night he spent roaming the streets yelling they would come back. Sometimes he would suddenly start crying or laughing. One day he grabbed me by the shoulders. His fingers digged deep into my flesh, ten knives leaving red traces on my skin.
"They're back," he whispered with the same dark eyes and I was afraid that if I turned my head, if I followed his gaze, I would see the ghosts of his family. They kept haunting my dreams for a long time. A woman and two girls without faces.
"What if she isn't lying?" I ask softly.
He tilts his head slightly and studies me for a moment before he speaks.
"Is there anything you want to tell me?" It sounds as if he is begging me. Begging me to give him a reason to believe he has been wrong all along. He might be a rock, but not a stone.
"Nothing," I can hear the hair holding the sword ripping right before guilt hits me again.
"Anything else?"
I shake my head slowly as I watch him turn around to go back into his room. He pauses and looks at me.
"I didn't touch her," he informs me opening the door.
I rub my temples after the darkness has swallowed him again.
Tomorrow, maybe.

Her perfume hits my nose even before I see her in the hall. I inhale deeply the sweet scent and can't help but smile.
"Beautiful morning, isn't it?" I greet her.
"What's so beautiful about it?" Kala asks smirking at me.
You, I want to answer. But I'm not in the mood to challenge her. I rather enjoy watching her. It's still like poetry. Lord Byron, Ghalib and Shakespeare dominate my mind and soul. Their words dance in my head.
"Don't look at me like that," she hisses. "You should thank me, you know? I do all this for my son. If you weren't …"
I stop listening. Feel lighter. She is a mother after all. And I can't give up on her. She'll change. Someday. I just need to be patient for a little longer and make her understand.

And after all that's been said and done
You're just the part of me I can't let go- Hard To Say I'm Sorry, Chicago

One Shot Entry # 2

Rays of sunlight broke through the dark veil of clouds, signaling at the beginning of a new day. While everyone was busy preparing for the day ahead, there was a faint figure strolling by the water's edge lost in thoughts of her past. Tiny droplets of water carried by the sudden breeze hit Nakusha's face, hinting at the probability of rain. It was the beginning of the summer and she'd always loved the rain. And how could I not... That's how I first met him... she thought. It was raining then too. His hands had slid perfectly around hers that day, like they were two pieces of the same puzzle. At the thought of his touch, Nakusha let go of her breath that she hadn't realized she had been holding. A content smile played out on her lips at his memory; she was used to days like this when she'd look back at her life and relive it all.

She hadn't been one to believe in love before; the idea of selfless love seemed archaic and submissive to her. Why should I worry about someone else, when I have myself to care about?, she'd think. Being orphaned at a young age, she'd always had to fend for herself. And even though she was lucky enough to not be send into foster home, living with her paternal uncle was no walk in the park. Most nights he'd be at his regular hangout, the local bar where he'd stay until sun up. Then he'd drag himself back to bed and not be heard from until the sun went down. Nakusha used to wonder why her uncle didn't show any affection towards her then. You're Nakusha - the unwanted..., a little voice used to scream back in her head. No one can love you; no one will!

That's when the skies opened up, sending down upon her millions of raindrops. Like kisses from above they washed over her until she was enveloped in his thoughts again. She'd been so lost before she'd met him. Lying, cheating and being reckless was part of her life. Anyone she could con, she would. She had to look out for herself, sometimes at the expense of others. No one else will!, that little voice used to say. A silent shudder went down her spine as she thought of life before she met him. "The Dark Days" she'd call them; void of any life and any happiness. He'd walked into her life like beam of light, brightening her world. Until I pushed him away... she thought, her heart plunging into the pits of her stomach. All he wanted to do was make me smile but I just didn't trust him! He loved me, but I wouldn't believe him. A silent tear slid down her cheek and a moment later disappeared into the rain; waves of guilt and remorse crashed into her heart. She'd always known deep down that his intentions were good and that he really cared for her, but that little voice had advised her to be weary of him. Everyone wants something in return, it had said. And by the time she realized he wasn't "everyone"...

Without thinking Nakusha slid her arms across her waist, crossing over to her back; being alone, she had learned to "hug" herself when she was sad, so much that it was a subconscious habit now. As the rain drops washed over her, she remembered the day she'd asked him to leave. What do you want!! Just tell me what you want! He'd told her he just wanted to be there for her in whatever capacity she desired. Stop lying to me! I am not an idiot. All of you want something. Everyone always wants SOMETHING. What it is! Just tell me! She'd love him then, even though she didn't realize it and not knowing how he might hurt her had left her feeling vulnerable and exposed. She had just wanted him to confirm her suspicions by naming his "price"; to just tell her why he was REALLY there! Because to believe that he was really there for me was too scary, she thought. She was naive then. If only she'd known then what she knew now. If only.

Her thoughts were interrupted as a pair of arms slid around her waist from her back. If only. She fell back against him, her head resting below his chin. If only I'd believed him sooner. She closed her eyes as a silent tear of bittersweet pain, gratitude and relief escaped her eye lid. As if he knew what she was thinking, he brought his lips close to her ears and whispered I love you now more than I loved you then; I'm never going to leave you. This time she believed him.
