Gautami Gadgil (Tulsi of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) was in for a rude shock on New Year's Eve. The actress went to straighten her hair at a well-known salon on December 28, 2007 just before New Year's Eve. However, the hairdressers at the salon used more chemicals than was actually required to straighten Gautami's hair. As a result, the actress' hair was burnt and she had no choice but to cut her hair short. She now sports a bob cut.
Gautami got a few days break like everyone at Balaji Telefilms to usher in the New Year in Goa. Gautami was quite enthusiastic about the holiday and decided to straighten her hair at a salon at Kemp's Corner. After she got her straightened, she went to Goa with her husband Ram Kapoor and daughter Sia. She only realised that something was terribly wrong with her hair when she came back to town on January 2.
Gautami says, "I was very happy for the few days off that I got from Balaji for New Year. As I was enthusiastic about the break, I went to a beauty salon close to my house to straighten my hair. I did not bother to wash my hair for three days when I was in Goa as it's a cumbersome process. Also, I wanted to spend as much time as I could with my daughter Sia. Moreover, my straightened hair was just perfect for the party mood. We partied like mad in Goa and returned to Mumbai on January 2. On that particular night, I washed my hair and realised that I could not comb my hair as it was getting stuck and was terribly entangled."
Realising that something was terribly wrong, Gautami called up her personal hairdresser Ryan who runs a salon, Muaah at Bandra.
"Ryan immediately came to my rescue and discovered that my hair was completely burnt. I was shocked when he told that the only way out is to cut my hair short. Ryan cut my hair by 4-5 inches on January 3 after which I went for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Thi's shooting. To my dismay, I realised that my problems were not over as I still had burnt hair. Ryan again told me that I need to cut my hair further," adds Gautami.
Finally, the actress got another haircut on January 6 where Ryan cut her hair by about 10 inches. Gautami says, "My hair was seven inches below my shoulders and now it's above my shoulders. I was really sad as I am quite particular about my hair."
How did Gautami's husband, Ram react to her new hairstyle? "He was definitely upset, but he understood that the only way to save my hair from further damage was to cut it short," she says.
Apparently, the hairdresser of Kyunki... is having a tough time fixing Tulsi's wig on Gautami's new hairdo. Gautami laughs it off. She says, "This is not true at all. The wig takes the usual time."
We asked Gautami to name the salon but she politely declined to give out the name. When asked if she is suing the salon in question, Gautami says, "To err is human. I have straightened my hair several times, but I have never come across such a mishap. It is quite a well-known salon in the city. After the mishap, they have apologised to me a thousand times. So, I don't want to name the salon and spoil their reputation. But, I am thankful to my personal hairdresser Ryan who did not charge a single penny and made my hair look great even after the disaster."
Gautami's hair dresser, Ryan D'Rozario says, "While straightening her hair, they overdid it. So, we had to get rid of those burnt ends by cutting off her hair. But the good part is that she is looking very different now."
